Anyone know a good source for rebuilt raw water pumps?

We have the original 6-71tic in one of our boats and one of the pumps has been mangled somewhat by a previous hand - I can rebuild it but would prefer a different pump body (mangled lip where the lip seal goes!) Covington used the smaller 471 pump apparently due to the placement of the direct drive alternator (immediately to port and lower).

Per DEPCO, the 471 pump is a DD exclusive and a new one costs over $1100.00! Any ideas are appricated.

Unless it's really bad, you should be able to lap the surface and clean it up. Use some 240 wet or dry paper on a thick piece of glass. Wet the paper with soapy water and work the sealing surface of the pump in a figure 8 motion. Do a final few laps with 400 wet or dry. Do the same with the pump cover.

Good advice, thanks, but portions of the 'lip' are no more. Whomever worked on this must have torn it apart with a hammer! Perhaps a new section could be welded on to the bronze?!?

Where are you? If in Fl. try Fl. Detroit Diesel in Ft. Myers 239 332 3100. Similar problem with used up pump, and they sold me a new one for less than $700.
Safe Boating, :)

Jabsco actually has a facility in New England where they rebuild pumps. They used to do it in California but closed that loaction. Try this one:

Northeast Region
Jabsco Service
11-35 Commercial St.
New Bedford, MA. 02741
Phone 508-992-8084

You should be able to ship your pump there for rebuild and the prices are reasonable and job "done right".

Good Luck.

Check out e-bay, I have seen rebuilt pumps on the site for a few hundred bucks.

Ditto to Mike's post: I have a spare 8V71TI pump which I bought on E-BAY a few years ago for less than the price of a rebuild kit....you have to check maybe once a week or so and you'll likely have to wait a while, but they do come up.

Winter seems a good time when demand is typically low. Also, sales that end during the week often have lower sale prices than those ending on weekends....maybe because fewer people check E-BAY during the week...

I'm guessing the pump lip was damaged by prying impellers off the pump shaft with a pair of screwdrivers....almost everybody uses left and right positions and those portions tend to get reused and abused...highly recommend the right sized wheel puller....makes it faster, easier, and you save your impeller housing.

Does it look like this? If so I see a very good deal in your future?

Thanks guys - this thread is actually from 4 years ago and I did replace that pump via the Jabsco service center for just over $200 (rebuilt). But as luck would have it, I now need to replace the other. Unfortunately, Brian, the pump you show is larger but thanks nonetheless!

Are you sure? That pump takes the shorter Impeller to the best of my knowledge there are only 2

No doubt in my mind, at all, and it is certainly contrary to anything you may see in the DEPCO catalog or otherwise. As noted, DEPCO shows these as appropriate to the 471 - mine, for instance, only has 2 screws (respectively)at the water inlet/outlet vs. the 4 shown in your photo.
