  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' DOUBLE CABIN (1967 - 1971)
Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Macinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave. Looking at this makes me think Spring can't come too soon. We expect to splash about April 25. It might be a bit nippy, but I don't expect to run into anything like that on my way to the marina.

Pretty cool looking I guess that is part of that Global warming right? :)

Eric,
Did you see that for yourself?.........because I don't think that it was taken at Mackinaw City. Take a look at this from snopes.com:

It appears that the picture is from somewhere in the antarctic.

But, please correct me if I am wrong on this.

It looks a lot like Glacier ice - that blue color is very common in glacier ice. I lived in AK for 8 years and went to the Byron and Matanuska glaciers a LOT to do ice climbing which was a major "sport" of mine in those days.

Gee! I found it on the internet. It MUST be true. No Sky, it is entirely possible that I have been fooled. Actually, the more I look at it the less likely it seems. It seemed like am unusual thing with which to try to trick the gullible. (me apparently) Just the same - cool wherever - whatever it is.

I would have believed you...lol. However, on the other hand, global warning notwishstanding, the ice cap at the South Pole is at a 100 year max, regardless of the constant nonsense reported by the press.

P.s., thanks for the pix post!

LOL. I tend to believe most of the stuff I get too. Then, just out of curiousity, I do a little search only to find out that many of the emails and such are not completely truthful (imagine that?). The Snopes site is pretty good for vetting most of this kind of stuff.

Those are pretty cool (pun intended) pics, though.

WAIT A SECOND...

You mean the email I got from the wife of the former Nigerian Minister of Cultural Preservation might not be real? In return for letting her use me as an American reference for 120 million USD that she has legally acquired, she has guaranteed me 24 million dollars. All I have to do is send her my bank account number so she can deposit the money. I was planning to use this to buy one of those cool tables like Eric has on the back of his boat! Isn't the internet great?

It would be very disappointing to find this was some sort of hoax! Say it ain't so! :(

I'm usually more skeptical of those things but definitely let my guard down that time. For those of you who get letters from Nigerian Princes and the sons of various other high officials, may I recommend the following article

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200706/cyberscam

It's hilarious. There is apparently and army of people out there who counter attack these Nigerian scammers. The idea is to fool them at their own game. You will get some grim satisfaction out of what they make these "scammers" do.

Supercooled liquid freezing instantly? Are we on the set of hollywood for that movie "The Day After Tommorow" lol laws of physics ignored

Global warming my butt. My boat is scheduled to go in the water next week. The weather here is forecasted is 3-6 inches of new snow Friday through Saturday. Give me a break. Neat pictures though. Where ever they came from. I though that was you standing there.

Thank to Al Gore open his mouth God had to show us we don't know what we are talking about

Now there talking 3-9 inches of new snow tonight. Global what? I'm going to have one of those instant waves in my front yard at this rate. Well we should have plenty of water in the Great Lakes.

I'm looking out on White Lake right now and it is connected to Lake Michigan. It looks to be the same level as last fall, way down. We're going to need alot more rain/snow for water levels to go up, but it's a start.

That's strange Sky. We have lots of water here in western lake Erie.

BILL

Here's the graph for this year. It looks like we're up only a couple of inches.

Erie is near the long term mean, while MI/Huron is near the record lows.

Lake Superior really got it, plus froze over, so the evaporation was limited. It is expected to up by about a foot this year (was actually up about 6 inches last year, but no one notice/wasn't widely reported. Due to very large volume of waters needed to flow, Lk MI and Huron won't rise due to Lk. Superior until next year. However, once the snow melt completes, the lower Grt Lks should be up somewhat. Supposedly the heavy precip in the midwest was from the far West and Pac Ocean and not the usual lake effect, so that should add to the lake levels. I hope that is all true.

Geez, the global warming is such horse hockey...
