Hello All

I'm doing some repair/remodiling on my 61' MY and will need to finish/refinish several areas. The teak apears to have some sort of oil type finish on it there is no gloss and apears to be little or no film build. Does anyone know what was originaly used? Also any sugestions or advice on alternative products or methods woul be apreciated.

There have been several threads on refinishing the interior afromosia in the past. Try the search function and see if you can find them. They were very informative with some good tips from others who have done this.

We did a lot of refinishing this summer and came up with a good easy system.

Cleaned old finish with Clorox cleaner with bleach,
then hand rubbed with MinWax oil/stain finish and wiped off,
can not recall which color we used but it lookes like new with no stripping and hand application. On some new pieces of trim used same application and matches the old and new very closely.

We have found that minwax tung oil (which really isn't tung oil) finish with a bit of minwax red mahogany stain mixed with it does an beautiful job. It applies easiest by simply rubbing on with a cloth. You can apply another coat each day to ultimately achieve whatever level of gloss you like from a dull oil-finished sheen to one that is very glossy and reflective.
