I agree the topic already sounds dumb, but the goal is to improve the admiral's happiness with the salon. The rest of the boat is fine. Apparently I failed with my last attempt (6 years ago), even though I got a designer to help. So here is the good news, the furniture selections are fine, but I got them covered in Microsuede. They do work for the mission of receiving guests or our young kids in wet suits without concern. The colors need to go, but I do not know what fabric or material to use that works as well. Sunbrella with stain guard will not work. too porous. I have gotten all of that off the boat. Went to stamoid for the covers and bimini - very happy with that change. Leather comes to mind, but think that gets stained and is a bit to shiny.

Since many of us all have redone soft goods, I thought that you experts could help. What say you?

Have a look at the ikea range of furniture. Many sofas and chairs are smaller than normal and ideal for boat use. They come with washable loose covers and you can buy spare covers IanW

You can have fabric "vinylized" which puts a protective coating on the fabric. Don't have a clue ow it's done. I had a customer that had it done after his wife picked out the material.

Ultra Leather

I did my couch in Ultra suede then got a old Hatteras barrel chair as a gift did that one in Ultra leather and now wish my couch was done in it also :p

Has a little shine more like a low luster.

We did the sofa and dinette in ultra leather. Seven years later and no regrets. It looks and wears well. Ball point pen marks can be hard to remove. Also it is comfortable even in a warm room.

Our recliners are in a fabric and that has also held up well. I don't know the name, but it was very high end with good specs for soiling and abrasion. I would have preferred the chairs in ultra leather but the admiral wanted 'color'.

Ultra leather, like they said. Great stuff and very tough.

Thanks to everyone that posted, and Dan's picture really helped also. It turns out that the leather on our kitchen chairs at home is a very nice version of ultra leather that replaced the sunbrella. Great feedback and thanks. Ultra leather is the path I am on. What a great forum. Thanks SAMS for the venue..
