I am looking for interest/ideas in a "Hatteras Bash". Maybe a fishing tournament and some organized nightly events. Southeast Florida seems like a logical location anywhere between Palm Beach and Ft. Pierce. This would be a great way to get the forum members together. I guess we need to come up with some dates and a location.

Ok, Fire away!

Good Timing. hatteras just got back to me about being included in some of these events and I guess they would like to know more about it. Get me details and I will try to get us some goodies.

I would be interested in the tourneament too depending on where I may want to join another crew as the trip south at 15 Kts is a long one but at 70+MPH its a breeze.

Anyone looking for an ex LongIslander with canyon fishing experiance and only a 20 year lapse in fishing for their crew?

I can cook too.

For sure...

But I can't afford the time off for the cruise down and back (at least I got a pretty good frown when I suggested it).

How about one for the more centrally located folks (Charleston to Va. Beach) and meet in Beaufort (NC)...tie up at the Town Docks and fish the Big Rock??

I'd be happy to run the point on it and get some general info if there is any interest.

Rick

PS. any and all welcome as crew/designated quaffer

I may have some interest, depends on where and when

As our boats are scattered out through the entire lengh of both coasts, this might ultimately evolve into multiple locations. Being in Charleston, SC after March, I would love to spearhead one here later in the year...say May - June.

However, I'm thinking that as we are at the top of the winter Sailfish season in FL, this might be a good location to initiate the thing...Fishing grounds 6 miles or less from shore, lots of boats in a small area with a fishery that is in high season (sans cold fronts). The question I have is...how quickly could we put one together?

Input anyone..?

Throw out some dates...The top of my list would be Labor Day or Memorial Day. The seas should be fair and it will be warm enough to have some family activities for the youngsters and non-fishing types ;) .

If the tourney entry fee was between $300 and $500 we should be able to get a facility and some nice cash/prizes together, not to mention the bragging rights as the Winner of "The Hatteras Bash".

Does Hatteras or Sams Marine sponsor any paticular charity? We could raise a little money in the process....

How would Memorial Day Weekend May 26, 27 & 28, 2007 in West Palm Beach work?

For those not in the area you could fly in and hop on a boat. I know I would have room for a few anglers. It would be neat to have multiple sites the same weekend. What do you fish for in the Carolinas during the end of May?

We have so many tourneys for sails down here IMHO we would just muddy the water. Plus it would be nice to get together with our non-fishing brethern for some fun, sun and an adult beverage or 10....

I know 1st week on June or around that time was supposed to be that Bahamas cruies ??? And Collier / Lee county schools are off for spring break 1st week of April... And I think the LRC club has a thing in March in the Keys????

End of May (out of Beaufort/Morhead ) bluewater fishing runs the gamment....yellowfin, billfish, large mahi, wahoo, etc. Great time to fish the area...most all trips are productive

I am definitely interested. My dates are pretty flexible. So let me know what you come up with.

Gregg,
We could start like you say, a mini one in March. Sounds like there are going to be a few of us there at that time.

Maybe this has already been thought of but...

Another way to coordinate this could be a "virtual" tournament. Essentially, the tournament would take place on a set date no matter what location your boat is in. Start and weigh in times are set. The tournament officials would be at a central location where certified weights would be communicated and results would be posted on this web site. You could have an "official observer" on each boat to make sure everything is done according to what ever rules you set.

This could be a HUGE tourny if it properly organized and coordinated... and a lot of fun too!

Rick count me in as crew if you have any openings. I would also be interested in helping organize if necessary.

Thats a great idea. If we get enough boats along the coast it could include the whole eastern seaboard. maybe set up a weight station at each inlet that couls handle the weigh ins.

To be looking for observers may be a bit tough. As long as its not big money I think we can trust other hatteras owners to play by the rules.

I thing pictures should be reuired for every fish entered so we can share the fun.

I agree this could be a "fun" tournament and spark more interest. The issue of observers may or may not be an issue and the honor system would be the defalt no matter what. Setting up weigh in stations may be harder in some areas. Geographically this could be the worlds largest fishing tournament. I think this could work and grow into something worth while.

There are so many ways to format this. It could be a species specific (whahoo, dolphin, etc), biggest catch, etc. It could also be a series of events with a point system that could span the entire year. The options are limitless.

If we get into donations to charities the winning boat could designate the charity. There should be an application process for this and the charity should be declared before the event. This would raise awareness for the locals on both parts... the charity and us.

The way it is looking is a mini Hatt get together in Southeast Fla. Then maybe a big multi location tourney, 1) Carolinas 2) SE Fla. during May/June?

For the mini bash we have interest so far from
Thoward
Calcutta
67hat34c
Waymaker
Boatsb
Guzcruiser?
Lets narrow down to March in Ft. Pierce? Specific Dates?

For the big Hatt bash I'd be game for May or June......

I think it's a great idea, the Bertram 31 guys tried this a year or two ago, but got overwhelmed with the different species/different locals/how to award points, etc. and tanked the idea...(probably due to entry fees and prize money?)

To keep it simple maybe each unique geographic region could list the three most likely targets and keep up with who has caught the largest and award some sort of bragging bonus for landing/tagging a less likely XXXX species (eg for me a blue marlin)

Should be fun to try and come up with something...it'd be a blast to fish/party with a bunch of other Hatt folks and come here to share pics and stories

Rick

I vote we fish for bragging rights. Every boat needs a camera and the prizes are of minimal value. The experiance of fishing the east cost hatteras invasion will be priceless.

Ok.......For our local SE Fla. get together it looks like the 2 best dates in March are the 10th and 24th. I am good with either. What say you guys?

As far as the Big Hatteras Bash I think it would be best over a 3 day weekend and make it a family event. Multiple locations should not be that hard. I would vote for Memorial Day Weekend on that one.

I should be ok with the dates but who knows what the future brings.

For the multiple location event we need to set some boundries before Randy tries to enter his 41 in the bass category.

For the local one the 10th or 24th would work for us.
