  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' YACHT FISHERMAN (1972 - 1975)
Hi All,

Just wanted to throw this out to see if anyone might have knowledge in this area.

I have a push button phones (I'm presuming these are intercoms) in the galley, the master stateroom, thr helm and I think the flybridge.

I'd like them to work if re-activating isn't a big deal.

Can any one give me some info on the purpose of these phones and how to make them work ie where might they be broken.

Right now if you pick the receiver up there is no noise and pushing the buttons doesn't seen to do anything.

Thanks

I pulled the entire set out of my 58 TC... If you need them for parts they are yours... you pay shipping. BTW... half the set was wet so they are for parts only. PM me if you want them. ws

YB, did you replace the old intercom with a new system? If so, do you (or anyone on the HOF) have any recommendations re an intercom for the spaces?

No way... I'm a purist! If I cant shout orders (Grab that line! Push off! Get me a COKE!!!) then its time to hang up the captains hat! Seriously, its really just a novelty with an additional maintenance tag attached!!! ws

I guess you, as captain, can 'order" some food from the galley if someone is preparing food. Oddly there was not one in the engine room where it might have been useful....

The ones on my 1972 48 YF never worked and after owning the boat 11 years I must have missed one nook and crannie aboard because I never did find the "base" unit...which I assume powers and connects the remote stations....Do you know where yours is located?? I'dbe interested. I assumed they were 12 volt powered but never found a circuit breaker nor fuse either.

Anyway, I took them all out....wireless headsets or walkie talkies are a lot more useful.

I like mine and actually do use them. Sometimes, they are used for a requested wake-up call. Other times, to announce to a room below that dinner is ready, or just stuff like that. One thing I don't like is to be yelling all over the boat and sometimes, I'm too busy in the galley to leave it just go up to the FB to ask a question. So, for me, they come in handy. They aren't pretty, but I've taken one as a guinea pig - removed it from the wall, re-painted the black and white parts, remounted and it looks a LOT better.

I'd like to have a more modern system, but the ink hasn't even begun to think about hitting the paper for that item on the to-do list.

Hi All,

It may sound foolish but I'm not sure we'd use them much either it's just they're on the boat so they should work. I like to keep her original with working original equipment

PS we do use wireless headsets.

Ang....do you happen to know how they work or where the conrol unit is ?

Thanks

I have five on my boat and at times are invaluable. especially the engine room to bridge phone. The phones are 12v and are driven by a small converter in the engine room. Newmar sells new (http://www.newmarpower.com) ones from single replacement phones up to a set of ten. I don't recall exactly but they were reasonable priced

Chris, which Newmar unit are you using?

FYI - When you pick up one phone or push the buttons, you don't hear anything because pushing a button rings a buzzer in a different room and there's no "dial tone" just talking when two phones are picked up. Try having someone stand by the galley phone and you use the lower helm phone. Push all the buttons to see if one buzzes the galley and have them pick up to try talking. I believe each phone has a bundle of wires going into it, one from each other separate station.
