  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' FLYBRIDGE DBLE CABIN (1972 - 1978)
Good evening all,
Hope you can help. I am having a hard time renewing my boat insurance this year. Many brokers will not look at her because she is an older Hatters ('72).
I was wondering what everyone else does. I am in southern Ontario, the boat is a 38' DCFB with new survey and no claims history.
Your ideas and/or company names and broker contacts are welcome!

There are several responses in the "am i going about this correctly" thread, if I remember correctly. Someone posted contact info for a Hatteras owner that is an insurance broker.

Hi, after a recommendation from a friend, I connected with Offshore Risk Management.  They were able to write a policy for my 1970 Hatteras, and they have been great to work with.  Contact information:

Looks like I'm not able to post links yet until I get 5 or more posts, sorry!!

Call Mark Davidson at Paisley Partners. He knows how to insure older boats in good shape here in Southern Ontario.

I used Northstar in Barrie, there is also Skippers Plan. I would never use MD Marine in Orillia. I had them for years and they dropped me for no reason with only two months to find a new policy. Funny thing is that I still have the same underwriter.

Hello all,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and information.
Here is what I found out: There IS life after 50! I was able to get insurance through my current broker with Premier Insurance. Walt, I checked Skippers Plan, they were great in responding and were able to offer a plan for me too. Very quickly in fact.
I also came across Hagerty Insurance. They seem to specialize in older 'vintage' (Their word) boats. They were also very helpful and responsive.
I will keep Paisley Partners in mind for next renewal too.
It was also interesting to hear others say that their insurance was dropped almost without notice. That is exactly what happened to me. I was lucky in one respect; I had a new out-of-water survey completed just last week. That helped a lot. Still, this is not a situation that should have developed. The sudden and unexplained dropping of anyone's policy is unprofessional, and hard on people's nerves. My thanks again to all!
