What will be looked at during an out of water, in the slings insurance survey?

I've got one coming up next week  .

There is a general answer to that I'm sure, but i wanted to emphasize that it really depends on the surveyor.

One surveyor's "relatively blister free for her age" bottom is another's "this boat needs to be peeled" bottom.

I would interview the surveyor first, and ask what they're looking for.

Even after what I thought was a thorough interview and explanation of what I wanted, our most recent surveyor royally screwed us.

That is what I’m afraid of.

In addition to the overall condition of the hull, including condition/age of bottom coatings, and the obvious (like whether your props and rudders are still in tact and whether you have any zinc left), they will check the prop shafts and rudder shafts to see if there is any play which would indicate worn cutless bearings. They will likely look at the condition of the grates for the through hulls where you have them. Of course, they will sound the hull looking for delamination.

Sound the hull, check the thru hulls, check zincs, check general bottom condition and check the running gear.

Inside bilge pumps, fire extinguishers, all electrical outlets, all switches, appliances, a/c, safety equip, nav equip, batteries, ground tackle, general engine, general generator, and overall condition.

I am sure there is more but I do not have any of my surveys in front of me.....
Just be glad you do not have a wood boat, those surveys are worse than going to the dentist!

Actually, they're worse than going to the proctologist for dental work.
