  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' YACHT FISHERMAN (1972 - 1975)
Hi All,

A lot of folks have enjoyed my trips down to the shipyard so I've decided to continue them as installments predicated on my ability to get down there. Thanks for all the feedback and PM's.

I managed to get down to the shipyard today to see what’s new and here's what I found.....

The first 3 images are of a really big express motor yacht on the hard for bottom paint and prop tuning. (notice how tiny the bow thruster is for such a large boat)

The next 3 images are of the propulsion system of this boat, which I've heard of and viewed in pictures but never had an opportunity to see it in real life. so I was quite curious. (amazing omnidirectional capabilities, yard technician said the props would cost 2 years of his salary)

The next 3 images are things that caught my eye. The color of the sailboat is amazing, the classic motor yacht in the shed looks immaculately kept, and I'm tempted to buy that houseboat and plunk in in the middle of the harbor and catch a nap in the evening.

Hi All,

Re-checked the batch of images last night and they're arneson surface drives.

There's a 72ft Pershing that spends a month or so at our club each summer. He has Arnesons too. That boat will cruise in the 40kt range and run over 50kts WOT. It's impressive to see that big boat flying and throwing a rooster tail about 25ft high and 150ft long!

I like to explain to friends on board that a modern high horse power boat with 2500-3000 combined horsepower can run around 40 knots or so. They are impressed. Then I shock them by telling them that if I was to give them one gallon milk jugs full of diesel and they had to pour fuel from these milk jugs into the tank to feed the engines while at speed, they could not keep up with the engines voracious appetite for fuel. Hardly anyone can believe it. What does b.o.a.t.(t.) stand for again? Lol

Hi All,

I found a few images I missed in the initial post.

All are of a Hatt SF, maybe a 60 ? It's been on the hard a while.

It's a mid '90's 54C.

Hi All,

Thanks Jack, I knew you'd know at first sight.

I could tell it was smaller than your boat, it doesn't have that extremely long beautiful foreword deck of yours.

I don't particularly like the open engine vent look, do you ?

The 54C is one of my favorite Hatts and one of the best hulls they ever built. Those open vents aren't th prettiest design but the boat needs big vents to let those big engines breathe. Almost all have 12V92's or 3412 Cats. The Cat boats will cruise 29-30kts all day long.
