  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' FLYBRIDGE DBLE CABIN (1972 - 1978)
I'm installing a pump out for my holding tank. Current config is poo into the top of the tank, poo out the bottom to a sealand pump with duck bills.

The easiest way for me to install the new hose would be to put a tee at the discharge hose (before the pump) and run my new hose from there.

Question is -- Will the pump out station suck my duckbill inside out or damage my pump?

Vent line going in also.

Thanks for your advice

My installation has a "Y" valve to direct the discharge to either the shoreside pump out line or the on board pump out line.

My 42C has a tee prior to the pump, with the alternate hose going to the deckplate. No problems with the system for as long as I've owner the boat...

I'm doing the same thing. I have a separate thr-hull for overboard and I'm connecting a powerfull pumpout motor off a T into the dockside pumpout line. I'm going to out a 2 inch ball valve after the T before the overboard pump. When we're not in the Bahamas, I'll leave that ball valve closed to the overboard pump is nt affected by pumpout suction or stuff in the line.

I'm going to have a 2 inch ball valve after the T before the overboard pump. When we're in the Bahamas and the valve is open, the overboard pump will use the regular dip tube to pumpout the holding tank. When we're not, I'll leave that ball valve closed so the overboard pump is not affected by pumpout suction or stuff in the line.

can you install an overboard discharge with a macerator pump in the line that comes out of the top of the tank to the deck plate or does it have to come from the bottom of the tank ? will the macerator pump suck the[stuff] out or does it have to pick up from the bottom and push the [stuff] out. bigbill

Yes I did that and it works fine you just need to make sure the O ring in the deckplate is good or it will suck air. You will need a check valve or ball valve at the pump discharge or intake line otherwise you could suck backward thru the pump when using a pump out station and draw air or sea water.

As always, thanks to all for the great response.

Hope you all had a great T-day
