  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Looking for information on 1976 46 C Hatteras.
Where are the three fuel tanks located also do they have inspection ports, how many gallons does each tank contain?
The 8-71 fuel burn at what RMP’s and speed
Any good or bad issues to be aware of.
Thanks,
Captn Ron

There is a 250gl center line tank that runs from the forward end of the ER and forward under the companionway. There are 2 200gl tanks under the cockpit sole. The water tank is 180gls and is just aft of the center fuel tank and below the floor in the ER. There is also about a 140gl tank forward of the center line fuel tank that can be used for fuel, water , or waste depending how or if it is plumbed in.

I've owned mine for 11 years and have been very happy with it. Very solid boat with a fantastic ride. It can be a bit wet but not as bad as the 53's or even the 45's that are based on the same hull. ER is nicely laid out and pretty good access to the 8V71's and the genny. You should see 18-19kt cruise and 22-23kts WOT if all is well and she is not too loaded down.

Thank you for the information, it has 871TI's. It's in fair condition for the age and lack of care, has minor IKE damage mostly the canvas. The fuel has been sitting in the tanks for some time, old enough to grow hair in the racor's. Plus lots of oysters growing on the bottom, 2 years of growth and not moving the boat.
Thanks again,
Captn Ron

fished on a lot of these 46's in the 70's and 80's. IMO one of the best offshore fishing boats. Stable dry high freeboard solid boat. The early ones had problems with the allison m gears later they switched fron 1.5/1 to 1.91/1 and were a little slower. also the turbo mounts would break. I was on one that caught fire because of this but that can happen to any turbo boat.Later ones I think 83 had the 8/92 s I heard 28kts wot but cant confirm that.

I caught my first white marlin on a 41 like yours july 1967 out of Cape May nj 12 yrs old. I started out washing boats finaly got them to take me with. The guy that had the 41 used to put me on the wheel as soon as we got out the inlet then he would go back to bed. felt like I was king of the world running that huge 41. After 4 hours I would have to wake one of the guys up to take a loran bearing.Loved that boat.
