Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
A few days ago I was aboard a boat that has the Atlantes heads. I asked a few questions and the owner showed me the hose hookups and also demonstrated the flushing. I didn't think to ask additional questions at the time and he's not here now so I decided to ask here.

I noticed that when it was flushed, it didn't look too "energetic" to me. The water just sort of ran out of the toilet as opposed to "flushing," like the GMs do (while using a lot more water) Although it would obviously work fine for liquid waste, I wonder how well the head can actually clear a "meaningful deposit?"

Any insight on that? (or should it be "Endsight?" ;)

Mike, I agree that the Atlantes doesn't look energetic but it works quite well. I installed the regular and the household sizes in my 58YF several years ago and they are still working flawlessly. The only issue I had with them is that they are fairly loud when they flush.

With that being said, if I were buying heads today I would probably buy the Headhunter (what Hatteras uses today) heads. Headhunter is arguably the best, but it needs very strong water pressure and a 1.5" line to ensure proper flushing which may be a problem for some applications. I was extremely impressed with Headhunter and all of their products at the last boat show and I have since purchased their incredible Mach 5 water pressure pump. I watched the rep flush a set of pantyhose through the head and it came right out the back of the head! Someday, I plan to replace all of the Vacuflush heads that are in my boat now with Headhunters. Every time that I stay on my friend's '00 Hatt 74MY I am very impressed with the performance and silence of the Headhunter heads and the incredible water pressure throughout the vessel. GREAT products.

I had the same reaction to the way the Techma heads flush. I can't speak for the Atlantes but I can say the Techma head has no problem with a "heavy load." It doesn't seem that way when you just flush water but they get the job done. I'm sure the Atlantes is the same as most who have them like them.

Mike, Absolutely NO problems with a "BIG DEPOSIT". flushes with ease, no mis fires...

We had an Atlantes on Passages.

In the words of David Pascoe:
"work right and will dispose of a gorilla turd without throwing it back in your face."

Sounds good though I don't plan to have any gorillas on board .

Or, per Captain Ron, were you referring to guerillas? :)

I've had 3 guys on board for several days all over 220lbs who tried to break them, I think. the same crew clogged the GM at the dock a few years back. and before replacement. one friend, 6'5" asked if they made a bigger seat and could he get one for the house. I didn't share the specs on the larger one in the master. No one had to deal with a clog using anything but the buttons. we use scott tissue from costco. happy customer.
