Impeller

I don't know anything about that retailer but I do know others who had issues with cheap impellers. Often they were old and dried out. I would try http://www.marineparts.com/default.aspx They're a parts finding service and often have the best price and excellent service.

Fairfield is a large supplier to other businesses. They were DuPont's primairy source for the many things used in maintenance while I was there. Note the impeller is not a kit. No gasket or lubricant included. Otherwise it is the standard Jabsco part. Add a 'P' to the designation if you want the kit. I just got two kits from Ebay for $50 each.

I looked on eBay and the ones I found were starting at $70 and up, I was more concerned about reliability of the company. Of course it's a pig in a poke anywhere you purchase on the net. I guess you could also walk into a big marine retailer and buy a impeller right off the shelf that also may have been sitting there for 3-4 yrs.

Everyone can jump on and tell me I'm crazy but I took out my 4 year old GLOBE impellors and, aside from a major sand injesting last season that left clear wear marks on the outer lips of the impellors, they are as pliable as the day I put them in. I ordered two more for spares. there's a lot of bad press on them out there but I've never experienced it. I think the amount of sand we pumped through would have killed most impellors. The bottom 10-12" of keel was wiped clean of any algea and the prop tips too.

I know it's a crap shoot even when you put in a brand new one. I change them every two years and keep the old ones for spares. I think it's cheap insurance to change them rather than having one come apart and having to go fishing for the missing parts!

I used to get my impeller kits from Fairfield Supply, but they went out of business last year. So now I use Depco out of convenience and loyalty... well OK, I got the latest set from JLR on the Parts forum here.

EDIT: It looks like Fairfield might be back in business based on the link in Post #1? I always liked those guys.

I'm one of the guys with horror stories over use of Globe impellers. Had them in a 8KW Onan and went through several (warrantied) at relatively short intervals.

I change the big Jabsco's each year (about 300-375 hours). When I let them get beyond 400 hours, I start to see cracking at the root of the vanes.
