Ideal windlass

My 1990 65 Hat has an Ideal windlass on the bow. I've barely used it (only to remove and straighten the anchor shank), but there is quite a bit of oil now on the deck around it. Is there a seal on it that has failed and if so, how bad is it to replace?

Suggest you give Ideal a call. I have had their units aboard on various boats for over 30 years and they are incredibly helpful on the telephone.

There is a seal at the base of the capstan shaft which can allow water in and displace the oil out the top . I would drain the oil out and check . My guess is you'll find water mixed in ......Pat
