Happy New Year fellow HOF members! For those of you planning a northbound Spring migration through Norfolk, VA, here is some Coast Guard information that may be important to your travel plans:
"Proposed Closures of Elizabeth River for Midtown Tunnel"
Elizabeth River, Portsmouth, VA
A temporary safety zone on the Elizabeth River is established to facilitate the installation of multiple segments of the new Midtown Tunnel between Norfolk and Portsmouth. The safety zone would be in effect for twelve separate 48-hour periods beginning in FEBRUARY 2015 and encompass the ENTIRE WIDTH of the federal channel between Elizabeth River Channel Buoys 31 (LLNR 9835) and 34 (LLNR 9855). Due to unforeseen construction delays, the dates of the channel closures must be shifted back. To complete construction of the new Midtown Tunnel, SKW Constructors will now require ten 48-hour closures of the federal channel on the following dates: February 18, February 23, February 26, March 3, March 9, April 20, April 23, April 27, April 30, and May 11, 2015. All channel closures will begin at the stroke of midnight of the first day of the ten aforesaid periods and continue for 48 consecutive hours. During these periods, no vessels are permitted in the safety zone without the permission of the Captain of the Port or his designated Representative.
