Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
I had my 87 45 Hatteras C surveyed for new insurance so I thought since the boat is out lets do the bottom. I Had a marina in the keys haul her pressure clean her and prepare the bottom for painting. I used Pettit Ultima ablative antifouling bottom paint in which they supplied which I have used before in black. This is my third time I have used it on my bottom. I get the boat back at the marina last week and I have developed a blue line on my hull at the water line on my stern from port to starboard, I really have not seen this line on either my port or starboard side. The line is only at the water line and the Pettit paint seems to be fine above and below. My original hull color was the royal blue but I have not seen that color for 4 years on my hull except for the occassional gauges in my bottom which are covered with a sealer and then painted. I am not sure where the line came from, the bottom is only 2 weeks old and I put only 15 minutes on the bottom in motion the balance has been sitting at the dock. The marina that painted her tells me this is normal? Why would this appear I did see the 3 gallons of empty paint cans in my trash at my boat, but I did not see them paint it. I need something to tell them I nave never had this happen before. Any educated ideas???????

That paint has a very high copper content. It has a tendency to turn a blueish green at the waterline as it is exposed to both salt water and air. Our Petit Trinidad Pro is 68% copper and it does that near the waterline. This is the same action that turns your brass thru-hull fittings green. Relax, enjoy, it ain't supposed to be a thing of beauty. The whole purpose of bottom paint is keeping the gorp off.:)

Thank you I will rest easier tonight!!!!
