Hello, lost steering today. I found leak coming from a square block type piece next to piston in lazarett. Two lines in and two out that go to piston. Appears to be aluminum and there is a split one the edge. Would anyone know its function and can it be bypassed. Trying to get back to port, 4 hour steam. Replace when I get back.

No idea, but if you have lots of fluid on board, perhaps you can fill and bleed then monitor the fluid level as you run and top it up before you need to bleed again????

That's the bleeder/balance block. I've never seen a block split. Usually just the fittings.

Split is putting it mildly. Think I'll stay put until I can replace it.

I just R & R the unit on a 63 CPMY due to keakage. It is not an expensive unit and can be purchased thru Sam's.

I may be wrong but besides being a bleeder block, I think that might also act as a pressure relief. You could bypass/cap it off, but you might run the risk of blowing out seals in your ram. If its only purpose is for bleeding, then I would see no reason it couldn't be eliminated but I don't think that's the case.

i know on my system it is a balance/ bypass/ bleed ... and needed per hynautic / teleflex.

I checked when I re plumbed the system.

Then that's probably true. I just can't see then why you couldn't temporarily isolate it out of the system to get back home.

It appears from the image that it failed from severe corrosion/ neglect. What does the rest of the lazzarette look like?
