My port Hynautic shift is leaking. How do you repack the seals. Is this an item that needs to be sent out and if so who does this? Also, what is the process for disconnecting the shift handles?IMG_5697.webpIMG_5698.webp

Very common problem. You can buy seals online and replace. Seems salt crystals get into the o rings and eventually chew the up. These the folks that rebuilt mine several times and have done steering ram rebuilds. They have been great to deal with and very fast turn around time. If the parts are no longer available they can make one.

Boat Steer people were very responsive and will rebuild the engine controller if I send it to them.

I don't know how to remove the engine controller. Can you walk me through it?

If the instructions sound easy, I may try. But otherwise this looks like a job for someone with more wrench skills than I have.

Thanks

Bruce

Its getting increasingly more difficult and pricey to source parts for these old Hynautic shifters. Many are finding that switching to electronic controls is a better alternative.

Release the pressure at the reservoir.
Unbolt the control from under the dash.
Label the black tubes, take pictures, and remove tubes from the control.
Over a bucket, work the control to drain remaining glycol.
Place in a 1 gallon zip lock freezer bag and ship to your repair depot.

Exactly what I needed to know.

Thanks for the great recommendation and advice from everyone.

Info share - I found great parts support from Seattle Marine & Fishing Supply Co. when doing a complete rebuild of my entire engine and transmission control systems. https://www.seamar.com/products/169/Hose-Fittings-Parts/

I have had good luck with Southern Charm on my helm rebuilds. Main reason I went there was they are not too far from home and I didn't have any shipping costs. I was dropping off at his house but that was during covid.
