We are a little apprehensive about making this move due to Hurricane concerns

Been living aboard for years - but out of major hurricane zone, however, making this move to Florida full-time - very curious what one does with their boat during a hurricane - what do you typically do during a major storm?

Help we really want to make this move - but are we crazy??? LOL

Our hurricane plan says move into a hurricane safe harbor, double lines, check bilge pumps, etc.. Been living in fl. All my life, been through many storms. All but a couple were non events.where bouts in fl. You thinking about?

Well, your thread title indicate you re in maryland, which is no safer than Florida!
Over the last couple of seasons, the Mid ATL and NE has been under more threats than So FL where the last major storm hit 19 years ago.

Sure since then we ve had a few minor huricanes (Wilma, Frances, etc...) but most of the damage was minor or would have been prevented with ottos preparation

The key thing to understand is that hurricanes only affect a small stretch of coastline, 30 to 40 NM, in which damage will be focused. Three days before landfall, that area is pinpointed with enough accuracy to make the decision to move the boat outside the strike zone.

The other critical factor is exposure. Some marinas will suffer damage from 60kts wind due to longer fetch, at others 110kts will have minimal impact

I ll let you in on a little secret... Don't repeat it... We love to scare people away with hurricane, alligators and mosquitos tale!

our storm plan is simple. big storm = move boat out of the way then bring back after storm passage. we have been liveaboards with two kids for about 3 years now.
