  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
I have a New (to me) Hatteras 41C I think. It is supposedly a 1965 with the #501464NET18 on the plate in the Front Rope locker. What is my hull # ???

That has nothing to do with your hull number. It's your (or a previous owner) USCG documentation number. If you have the documentation paperwork, it will have the hull number and date of manufacture. You should also be able to find the hull number on drawers if you remove them.

And that gives you the Build # which then Hatteras can look up the Hull #

They are not the same, things were done very different back then.

The dresser drawers in my master have the hull number written on them.

No hull number listed, but maybe this will help.

WoW, Why didn't I think of that. Look on the drawers for the hull number!!!
I was actually cleaning & oiling all the drawers with Murpheys oil soap and
saw that number. I will check it out & write it down. It seems to be a point of honor
on this forum what hull # you have, and I dont want to be left out. Thank's
I also see from the kind information that My Boat weighs 36,000 LB Yikes!!!
When calculated by the pound I got a helluv a deal!!!! Yes!!

As I said its a build # now maybe Randy has two? Or it landed up as the same #?
He did not make that clear.
But from Hatteras the woman that use to take care of this stuff told me on the phone back then they would put a build # on all the draws and and many other pieces to know what boat it was for.
Hull #s were assigned when the boat was sold that is why a boat build in 1964 could have a # and Reg saying it was 1965.
My #s are different as is all the other older Vintage Hatts I know of but I am sure Randy's is different just like the Owner ;)

Plenty of Older boats here so the rest should speak up.

My Hull # is 326 but my draw # was lower like 314 not sure have to look again, I said maybe things got switched around and Hatteras told me NO Build # 316 became Hull #326
It was amazing they had all that Info that was when I got a copy of original invoice with the Name blanked out. Which I knew the original name was Dr Stewart and boat name was Oyster Stew I am # 6 owner and know them all but 1. Hatteras had the name I was missing because he registered but would not tell me the name!

No, your boat doesn't weigh 18 tons. That is a measure of volume, not of weight. I don't think listing a hull number has anything to do with bragging rights, but in my case, I discovered two members here who had hull numbers consecutive with both my Hatt's. Pretty cool, I thought.

Bird I have a 1966 41c. Loaded with fuel, water and beer it will tip the scale at 35,000 lbs.

Thats almost 18 tons.

Yeah, but you also said that threads get five stars because of how quickly replies are posted. :P

It's been a while, but I'm 99% sure my hull number is on the dresser drawers. My 58 had a metal plate with the HIN that was mounted in the ER (in addition to being engraved in the transom), but HIN's didn't come into play until 1972. I'm not aware of an imprinted hull number on my 41, but I was surprised no hull number or manufacturer was listed on the documentation of that 41C.

Assuming one does not have matching cabinet numbers, how can you determine the hull number without contacting Hatteras? You would think the hull number would have to be on the hull someplace.

Yeah, but how much beer is on your boat? Still, you know that the 18 ton spec on the document has nothing to do with weight... right? :)

Most Forums do use the post counts need to check the code to see for sure its part of all the tracking they do on the bottom of the page.

For a hull # Yeah back to the Subject It you can follow

You can always check the paper work ;)

But yes most don't have it my boat had the book with the hull # in it but was different then the drawers this was why I called Hatteras.

My boat and many other older Hatts we never found the Hull # anywhere on board and I have been through every Inch.....

Check out the star count on this one now. :)

Gross and net tonnage are usually on the docs.

Gross is usually the weight the boat displaces at maximum per the design.

As I said it is the max weight it could displace per the design. I didnt say you needed to calculate it. meth aint you best subjek anyhows.
Apparently reeding isn't yores neether.

"Neither gross tonnage nor gross register tonnage is a measure of the ship's displacement (mass) and should not be confused with terms such as deadweight tonnage or displacement."

Randy likes meth? Is that why he has the winnybager? ws
