Hatteras Model
32' FLYBRIDGE FISHERMAN (1983 - 1987)
I have no hull drain in my Hat. It may have come with one from the factory but maybe was used as a spot for a thru-hull before I owned the boat. Anyhow, I'm considering putting one in because the water builds up in the bilge over the winter when on the hard. I think the lowest spot in the hull is actually the mid bilge area. Any ideas where to get a good fixture for this? For those of you with a 32' Hat where is your drain located?

Thanks,

Jack

Jackman,
My 1983 32' Hat does not have a hull drain and none of the paperwork that came with the boat (purchased new) in the owners manual refers to one.

Personally, I like not having to worry if the "plug" is in. Up here in Northern IN the boat is covered, and what little water penetrates the winter cover collects in the aft bilge area (boat is set bow high) is removed when the batteries are reconnected in the spring with the aft bilge pump and wet-vac.
Now while in the water, since I do not have a generator, water does collect in the middle bilge area but that area's bilge pump does the job. Only wish I had your diesels in mine. The 454 Crusdaders are great until the ethanol issue (another governmental BS program) surfaced. So far, at the Michigan City Municipal Marina, no ethanol, but all the surrounding states have it which limits my cruising area to available from standard tankage.

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!

Don't worry too much about Ethanol. Your boat is late enough that you should be OK, who really knows. Our 1986 36C is supposed to have a drain. The paper work even includes a warning tag to make sure the plug is installed prior to launch. I have hunted high and low, asked the Hatteras tech folks, and looked again after we stripped the hull to gel coat. NO plug has ever been located.:)

No drain in my 1985, 32' either. Of course, I keep her in the water all year round here in Florida, so not an issue to me. Karl
