How are things progressing on repairs from the storm? Homes, marinas, boats, towns ??

Very slowly. Home repairs from flooding or tree damage seem to be moving along but there's a lot of competition for the work. The hard hit coastal areas are in need of major rebuilding. There still are a lot of boats stuck on islands and on land that need to be moved. Problem is there are so many of them and only a few barges with cranes big enough to retrieve them. There is one 200 ton crane in our area dealing with hundreds of boats that can only be retrieved from the water. Some of these boats are so far in that they need to use bags to lift and move the boat closer to the crane's reach. Boat repair is another nightmare. We don't have the facilities here to handle this much work and many of those yards are dealing with their own damage so the wait list to get work done is huge. The cold weather isn't helping things either. I'm still amazed how fortunate I was to come through this with such little damage to the boat and only tree clean up and removal at home.

It's amazing how fast it went off the news...... Almost an after thought for the rest of the nation, and now with the school shooting..............:(

If you're not living it it's not news worthy for too long. Same happens here after a big storm hits down south. Big story for a week or so then on to what Lindsay Lohan just got arrested for.

Regrettable, as these are all real folks with real lives disrupted through no fault of their own. Which is more than you can say about certain celebrities who seem determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of success.

There are plenty of good yards here in Maryland looking for repair work. Any boat that is truck-able could come here. Just a thought.

My boat insurance company has been dragging their feet for weeks or my boat would have been at Slane already. They asked me to get quotes, estimates for moving boat, bills for recovering the boat and to schedule repairs. After doing everything they asked after telling me they would not be sending an adjuster out because they are so backed up they change their story and say an adjuster needs to look at boat. I have the agent calling them, I'm calling them just about every day and I find out yesterday at 4:30 my adjuster is on vacation and they switched adjusters for the 3rd time. I won't mention the company here and crazy as it has been I have been told they have a good reputation by repair people and other boaters. On the other hand my homeowners paid my claim in three weeks and I have started repairs but Jack is right, contractors are so busy its hard to get a date out of them when they will show up.

Early Christmas present yesterday at about 4:30 in the afternoon. Turns out my new adjuster at the insurance company was extremely helpful and reviewed my claim. In a matter of an hour she called me back and said they are writing the check and I will have the money this week. Make arrangements to move the boat down to N C. Moral of the story is "you gotta believe in Santa". Merry Christmas and to all a good night.

What a nice outcome, just in time for Christmas. Cheers!

Great news Tom! How are you getting the boat to Slane? It will be nice to get the boat back all restored and upgraded the way you want it. You could take the money and get into a bigger boat but it won't be done the way yours will be after the refit. FYI my mom's maiden name is Tomassetti. Small world.

Jack,

Still working on getting the boat down there. Should find out Monday if we can get permitted through NJ. If we can't due to over height issues I will have to run the boat down to Delaware then truck to Slane. I considered total constructive loss and a bigger boat but I really don't want the added cost and headaches associated with an older big boat that would be available in that price point. Plus I can take the 36 out by myself if I have to and I think I would be stretching my limit with anything bigger. I also feel by time Tom Slane gets done with my boat it will be nicer than what I can find in a larger format. As for the Tomassetti familia, mine is from the West New York area of NJ. In Italy we were from a small mountain town of Collepietro. We should talk.

I see the government is again lagging behind on helping you guys out..
Different Prez
Different Hurricane
Same results.......
Sadly some things don't change..

But different election, no press howls. No problem, move along now...
