  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
OK .... I never run as much as I would like to ... and being in the northeast, I have a several month winter layup time. I looked at some fuel polishing systems at the show .... $2,000 to $3,000 for a Racor 1000 and a fuel transfer pump is crazy ..... and the "polishing systems" are really just that.
My buddy that was with me at the show has a 45 "V boat" with only one tank, so a system is easy for him. On a Hatt with 3 tanks, how do they plumb in a polishing system that will do all tanks. I would like to install one near my fuel manifold in the cockpit hatch. I already have the extra Racor and a Jabsco 5.5gpm fuel transfer pump is only $175.

You could do what I did on Gigabite..... integrated the polishing function with priming and the replacement Fleetguard filter system I installed....

Way less than the "boat show" setups, and its the cat's meow.

The easiest way to set that up would be to "T" into one of the engine's supply and return lines. This would allow you to use the manifolds to select which tank you're working with, and require minimal new plumbing. You could use a pair of two-way selector valves, or four simple ball valves to isolate the polisher from the engine's fuel system. The selector valves would be the cleaner install.

As I recall, Gig had the Seaboard system. How much did it cost and how hard was it to install?

If the tanks have an extra fitting for another pick up would it not be smart to install a designated pick up and run it all the way to the bottom of the tank to get all the crap? Just a thought.

Its cheap (both engines cost $400 if I recall correctly, WITH the filter elements) and was trivial to install.

I added the Walbro pumps, a couple of ball valves and a check valve to make the polishing/priming system to go with it.

The entire thing fit in less space than the original pair of Racors took! The article is over on BoatDiesel that I wrote up on it.

Do a search here on "fuel Polisher" youll find some info that may be helpful.
