Speaking of holding tanks, the top access plate on mine has started to corrode. I discovered the grounding strap had a break in it and so started the problem. I’ll pull the screws out one at a time, probably have to drill them out. They look like 1/4-24 Bronze My question is what do the screws go in to? Individual nut plates or inserts, or is there a retaining ring that can fall into the tank if all screws are pulled?Does anyone know if Sams would have a tank access plate or should I plan on making one?

They are threaded into the glass. The tank is plenty thick there. I have a video of it if you like me to post the link.

That plate is very very thick. I’d be surprised if you can’t clean it up and re-install it.

OK. I’ll post the results if I can clean it up.

If you can find that video, I'd appreciate seeing it. Looks like I may have to tackle the same problem pretty soon on my top holding tank plate as well.

Thanks

Success!! I got lucky:

1. As noted by raclarkson the tank has captive nuts for the access panel
2. Mine hadn't started leaking
3. Pretty accessible all in all
4. Thick material

I went slow and didn't make it worse which can be a tendency of mine... I had to drill out and tap each hole to the original 1/4-20 but since each brass screw had turned to dust I didn't have to go oversize. The brass screws ended up being the anode once the bonding failed.

I have the bonding drawing for this boat and will rework the forward end this weekend along with re-installing the Gobius quantity system. Enjoy the pics.

Very nice job. Congratulations.

Are those hose legends in indelible ink? First class job.

in-edible ink for sure :)

Nice job on the holding tank repair. Have something similar in my future. It was my understanding, Hatteras changed the waste extraction pipe in the holding tank to a non-metallic material (as the original ones corroded apart). My question, if this is true what year did the change take place?

Trying to set my expectations of what I am getting myself into.... Thanks!
