Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Yesterday morning we all were awoke by the dockmaster banging on the side of the boat. Wife got up and answered the door ( I was almost dead asleep (remember the word dead for a second) and came back into the boat yelling FIRE!!!!! I jump up out of bed and grab Erin and tell her bluntly get your coat and shoes on and get off the boat and find the dockmaster. Sho races to Mommy and falls off the end of the bed or he fell down I am not sure which. Pull on my jeans a dirty Hurricane shirt and grab Him. Yukari is now dressed in a half semblance of clothing as well and pulling on her coat. Get the jackets on Sho, and we grab some important documents and stuff Wallet CC etc... as well as my camera in case we have a problem. And race off the boat.

Reminder get a ditch bag ASAP!!!!! Get a ditch bag ASAP!!!! Repeat a million times!

get to the end of the finger and a fellow live aboard's boat is engulfed. Firemen everywhere along with police and EMT's. Race up the dock to the office and look back. Wind is taking flames away from us and engulfs another neighbors boat (he is also a live aboard) and working on a third now. Probably a total of five minutes 3 boats burning. Thank god, as only 4 boats were between us and the fire.

Imagine what would have happened if the wind was not coming from that direction but towards our boat. 3 live aboard families including ours. Along with 3-4 on the other side of the dock. Ever feel helpless in protecting your children from harm?

Pictures will be attached. Sleep maybe will come soon on a consistent basis.

This one hit a little too close to home. One of the boats belongs to one of my best friends. Fortunately he wasn't aboard when it started on the boat next to him. He took great care in maintaining his boat but the winds spread the fire and he lost everything.

Lucky it didn't take out more boats and most importantly, no one was hurt. Just goes to show how vulnerable we are to the boats and owners around us. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who took better care of their boat. Every time he considered buying another boat he declined because he knew what it would take to get it up to his standards. He really loved that boat. I remember the day he bought it. He lost a lot more than just a boat and some personal possessions.

Hi All,

Noel,

Jack, Tom, and 34's sentiments and cautions say it all, but I will re-itterate how wonderful it is that you and your family are safe, you're Hatt's still in one piece, and no-one was hurt.

Can't imagine the fear and panic......and the folks that lost their home, and Jacks friend that lost his beloved boat, just awful!!!!!

Fire is the most frightening thing and something I always worry about and why we pay so much attention to keeping electrical things in good shape (knock on wood so far so good, it could happen to anyone)

I am sorry if you thought I was in anyway stating his loss of the boat was not devastating. I was giving my story and what we dealt with. I am very grateful He and the other live aboard were not home. The loss of them would have been devestating. The loss of the boats is a tragedy.

However, the loss of property does not equate to my sentiments right now. BTW, jack, let him know we are really happy he is safe and that if we could we would wish this never happened! And let him know Erin asked after him as well :D.

Two things, all of us were in the back cabin, so a thought of how we would have gotten out is not as scary in some ways as if Erin was in the v-berth... Not sure i would have made it out but they could have gotten out the back hatch and into the river/mud.

The other is the head count and who are we missing... not a good memory at all. And Jack's friend was one of the one's everyone was asking after.

Noel, I'm very glad you and your family are safe. But I think it's time to find another marina.

Wow.... now that was SCARY...
We had a boat catch fire at out our last marina..... 3 boats down from us.... Luckily the boat's electric panal caught fire in the early evening and EVERYONE was on the dock for a party......
The inside was badly charred but the fire was put out before any other boat was involved..
But you just never know....

Was thinking the same thing Isn't this the second one within a year or two?
