Hi ho Silver, away!!!

Kind of a catchy buzzline, if I do say so myself! I wonder how many of us can identify its source? But I digress. To my question - I took my dad's collection of pocket change and old coins in to be appraised. While there, I asked the best way to clean old silver coins and the appraiser said to not polish them because it ruins their value. Anyone here know why? Howard in beautiful West Michigan

Polishing removes a layer of corrosion that actually protects the layers underneath. If it is constantly polished it will be worn down.
