  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
We went from Warwick Rhode Island to Ft. Myers Florida . Fuel burn was 1993 gallons / Time on motors 185 hrs. 27 days on the water.......12,500.00 total spent food fuel dockage etc.....

Had a great trip, 2 minor break downs . both break down were at good places to have a problem . one was a heater hose , the other was a screen on the air intake. We did take 5mos prepping the boat for the voyage......

Now we have here home I have most of the cushion made , Custom fitted for the bow & bridge with the correct foam ( dry fast ) so it will not hold water. We still have to decide on the leather for the salon & dinette. We did a single slab across the front, it looks like a giant sofa , really a posh look on the front. I cut & fit them from the #'s no pattern needed. I will post some pics went I figure out how to do it....

This Hatt is coming back to her former Glory........It's just a slow process.....Thanks for all the post that puts me in the right direction

Congratulations!

PICTURES PAUL!!!!!!! WE NEED PICTURES!!!!!! There is at least a half a dozen of us with the same boat wanting to see what you are doing.

Thanks!

I burned about 3600gls going from Long Boat Key, FL to Monmouth Beach, NJ and we didn't run hard. Takes some fuel if you don't run at hull speed.

I burned 2400-2800 gallons each way when I used to make the west palm to cape May run and back. Given the extra miles you traveled your 65 on a trip basis dosent burn much more fuel than my 50.

1981 48MY. About 1000 gallons for the run from Port St Lucie to Baltimore with a part of that for the generator as we anchor as much as possible. Mostly 1000-1100 rpm, 8.0-8.3 knots with some run up to plane at 2000-2100 rpm.

What is your fuel burn and speed at cruise? We ran slow the first two days due to planned stops and to try and save fuel. I couldn't do 10kts all the way so we started running her at 1750 RPMs which gave us about 17.5kts. That speed yields just under 1/3 NMPG. The boat runs best around 21-22kts but that drops you down to around 1/4NMPG. We also had calm seas and the benefit of running in the stream for a while. We were running 19-20kts with the extra push.

You sure it was not 3600 to Beaufort?

Now you got me thinking. Should have been about 3000 gls. I remember it was around 15K for fuel but I still had about 700-800 gls. I need to recheck how much fuel we added at each stop and what I used when I left Morehead City.

Good info! Sadly it convinced me that a trip we've often talked about, from our marina to Miami and return after a month stay there, is not within our financial capability due to fuel costs! :(

I did round numbers:

Longboat to Marathon 500
Marathon to Fl Laud 500
Ft Laud to Canaveral 500
Canaveral to Fernindena500
Fern to Charleston 500
Char to Myrtle beach 300
Myrtle to Southport 250
Southport to Beaufort 300

I know I am a little high but it is off the cuff.

I have to check but I recal putting 200 gls in at Marathon, 200 at Lauderdale, 200 at Canaveral, 1200 at Fernindina and 550 at Charleston. Arrived at Morehead City with about 700-800 left so that would be about 900-1000 gls used. That would be about 3200-3300 gls for that leg. That would be about right since we logged exactly 1002 NM on the plotter. Them my next fuel stop was Portsmouth for 1400 gls. I arrived at my slip with about 800 gls so that would be about 4650 gls used. I guess I was a bit off of my first estimate! I forgot to add in the 900 gls I needed to add after I got home. That makes sense since the total distance was about 1500 miles. I estimated just under 1/3 NMPG so that also adds up. That was a pretty close guestimation Dave.

I still think you should do it. Although maybe not all the way to Miami. Maybe just to NC...

It would be fun but we're OK with "local" trips. And I could use some of that money to buy a Collings or a Martin D18A! :)

Yeah I was wondering I didn't think you came all the way at hull speed. I always ran hard and usually made the trip in 5 days. If I remember right it was usually 60-65 tach hours. Which at 42gph would be in the 2400 gal range. The run would usually be outside west palm , st Augustine ,charleston, inside to Beaufort , Norfolk , Cape may. But then my first trip in '76 fuel was .35cents/gal.

Ok, you've convinced me. Buy a Collings. That way, I can play it when you are in MX, keep it in good shape :)

I guess the formatting didn't take.

Well I can figure out where all the numbers line up on your spread sheet that did not copy and paste so well. Conclusion is that my 34C is basically free to run anywhere in comparison. Of course we are "little" crammed in it.
