  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
While cruising in to a lock yesterday my shifters decided not to respond as intended. It is only one of 3 stations and that is the part that I do not get. One shifter will not put the trans in forward gear at all and the other will only go part way. It feel springy for lack of a better term. I have checked the oil and it is fine as is the psi. The other stations work fine. Any ideas?

This may sound really obvious but have you checked that nothing is blocking the travel of any of the shifters? I had the same problem once and found that someone had put a canvas cover over my console in the cockpit and not put the shifter bag part over the levers properly. Just make sure that there is nothing holding up the levers, also check that the actuator is not being blocked from movement somehow..................Pat

Do you need to bleed the system? Maybe there is some air in the lines to that station.

Nope, nothing near the shifters. I have not looked at them yet but bleeding will be my next step.

Defintely need to bleed them. When they get spongy or springy or they get out of synch, you have air in the lines. Altough the bleeding procedure sounds simple, when I had to replace a shifter a few years ago it took me almost a year to get all the air out. Make sure you disconnect the linkage when yoiu bleed them.

Looks like it is a leaking slave unit  . SAM'S, I'll be calling!

Call Charman Enterprises, Inc., Eaton, IN - 800-247-6324

They have rebuild kits for Hynautic Shifters. I just purchase two of the kits about three weeks ago. They are simple to rebuild

That is what it was. I rebuilt the slave unit and reinstalled in about 4 hours. It would have been much quicker but that bad boy was painted and had lots of corosion. I would suggest a kit or 2 if you do not have 1. The Hynautic slave unit # is SS-04 and the rebuild kit # is ECS-06.
