Currently I have 8.5 volts on the DC side of my Pro Mariner 12v 40 amp 3 bank charger with batteries connect or not. There is 120v on the AC side. I've had this charger over a year and it was replaced by factory once already. I've called tech support and they were very helpful. After 2 hours on the phone while in and out of the bilge they are telling me to wrap it up and send it back. The charger is charging 2 banks. I have two 8d batteries in parallel the star. bank serves the star. main and the genset. The port bank serves the port main and the house panel. It's a 1989 41c and there is nothing extra added on and this is how hatt. set up. It's not exactly what I would do but that may be a matter for another post. The original charger was a Charles 12v 40 amp charger. I took it out because I felt I would get more life out of my batteries changing to a 3 stage charger and the fact that the charles started to cook my batteries. In the end it wouldn't shut off. I ended up with 4 new batteries and this crappy 3 stage smart charger. I was told by Pro Mariner that this charger is large enough for the amount of load/amp hours I have. Has anyone changed the standard battery charger and if so with what? I'm currently looking at a 3 stage charles 12v 40 amp 3 bank 5000 series charger that has a 5 year warr. I'm not about to change my charger every 6-8 months even if they replace it for free or not. Am I looking at this correctly? I went through my loads to make sure something wasn't shorted but that would only account for one bank not both. Short of getting a charger that last's longer than 6-8 months I don't know what else to do. Any feedback or advice would be warmly received.
