  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
The port bank is about "dead." I am in sticker shock!!! Have 2 quotes about $485+tax, each....one of the quotes includes 2 men (and) a boy to remove and replace....Is this the going price?
Looking for a good source in Pompano Beach/Fort Lauderdale area....
Thanks,

When I was buying batteries 2 years ago I was quoted $264 each for eight Dekka 819s by Pasco in Easton, MD…maybe the prices have gone up that much since then. But that was just the price of the batts, I did the removal/install myself so if the price you mentioned includes the labor involved plus connecting, maybe that IS the going rate but seems awfully high… :(

We have used Lauderdale Battery and Alternator. They are off of S/R 84 on SW 3rd Avenue in FTL. The 819 batteries they sell are $350 each and labor was charged at 1.5 hours.

You might want to try DC Battery in Miami. They are manufacturing an 8 volt battery that specs out very well against the Deka's and fits in our battery boxes just fine.

I bought four Rolls for the house bank and four of the DC Battery ones for the starting bank. I believe they were about $250 ea. They aren't as pretty as the Deka's, but so far they are doing the job just fine. If you decide to go this route, be sure to tell them which way you need the terminals to face so that you can connect the cables without modifying the battery box cover.

Try st Lucie tire and battery in FT Pierce I always get mine from them. But I put mine in myself.

I had good experiences both with DC Battery and with Battery Sales in North Miami. They are both mostly commercial distributors and exporters, hardly in what I would call retail locations. Nice people. I've always managed to find someone young guys around the docks who are glad to do the job for 50 bucks. Or the battery company has a worker or two who will do it on the side if they are close by. While i never bought batteries from them, I found the folks at East Coast Battery in Ft. Lauderdale to be knowledgeable and helpful; likewise the aforementioned Lauderdale Battery and Alternator; both are a little more retail oriented. All these are quite familiar with these 8 volt batteries.

2 quotes from local companies pretty close in price would make me think its the going rate.

When I get requests for "competitive bids" I usually up the price so I don't have to deal with them. I'm not in business to lose money. Are you?

Thanks to all....made several inquiries, think I may go with Lauderdale Battery and Alternator....they quoted $350 ea, with $120 labor (for 2)....worth it to me...and that labor rate is for time on the boat, no travel time....Found one vendor that could supply Mexican batteries for $270 ea...but, he has no delivery or installers...just leery of those batteries.....
Tomorrow is haulout for a much needed bottom job....then, will get the batteries.......

Stuart Yacht Harbor, Stuart Fl has installed batteries and prices for batteries was competative

I just paid $300 each for 170AH 8 Volt batteries from US Batteries, model 13-4-1. The model 15-4-1 was only slightly more (190AH). US Batteries will tell you who your local rep is... I also did my own removal and replacement. It took 4 of us about 2 1/2 hours to remove all eight batteries (plus a 12 pack after).

Our port bank was dead too... Seems that they may need more care and TLC than the house bank.
