Hi everyone!
I'm just completing the purchase of a 1994 50 sport fish with MTU12v183's. I'm moving from a '88 50' Bertram. I'm 45 with a wife, 5 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. The Hatteras will stay at Riverside Yacht Club in CT in the summer & Stuart, FL in the winter.
I just found this site & I'm sure I'll have a few questions from time to time & it looks like there is an enormous wealth of knowledge here. I love the thread "mezzanine maddness" as I've always drooled over the pictures of the great cockpits I've seen.
I'm a "hands on" guy & do much of my own work from glass & paint to interior finishes & wood woorking (just finished a 2 year project completely rebuilding my mahogany 18' Chris Craft Riviera). I used to race offshore powerboats as a hobby & do my own engine room work as well. I grew up on Long Is. Sound & worked on many yachts as a mate & then worked my way up to a 100 ton master capt. In the mid 80's, I was running yachts around south Florida and actually lived to tell the tale. WOW, those were some interesting times!
The only issue I have with my new boat is the lack of space in the engine room with the 12v183's. Other than that, it's a super clean, one owner boat with only 1500hrs on it.
One engine overheated & the elderly man who owned it didn't hear the alarm & kept running. The engine was taken out, sent down to Johnson/Towers MTU and was completely rebuilt. It's in a crate & needs to go back where it belongs.
So, I look forward to joining in, helping where I can & enjoying the site.
David
