  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series III (1990 - present)
Hi everyone!
I'm just completing the purchase of a 1994 50 sport fish with MTU12v183's. I'm moving from a '88 50' Bertram. I'm 45 with a wife, 5 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. The Hatteras will stay at Riverside Yacht Club in CT in the summer & Stuart, FL in the winter.
I just found this site & I'm sure I'll have a few questions from time to time & it looks like there is an enormous wealth of knowledge here. I love the thread "mezzanine maddness" as I've always drooled over the pictures of the great cockpits I've seen.
I'm a "hands on" guy & do much of my own work from glass & paint to interior finishes & wood woorking (just finished a 2 year project completely rebuilding my mahogany 18' Chris Craft Riviera). I used to race offshore powerboats as a hobby & do my own engine room work as well. I grew up on Long Is. Sound & worked on many yachts as a mate & then worked my way up to a 100 ton master capt. In the mid 80's, I was running yachts around south Florida and actually lived to tell the tale. WOW, those were some interesting times!
The only issue I have with my new boat is the lack of space in the engine room with the 12v183's. Other than that, it's a super clean, one owner boat with only 1500hrs on it.
One engine overheated & the elderly man who owned it didn't hear the alarm & kept running. The engine was taken out, sent down to Johnson/Towers MTU and was completely rebuilt. It's in a crate & needs to go back where it belongs.
So, I look forward to joining in, helping where I can & enjoying the site.

David

Hello Dave, Welcome to the HOF. You will see a few names here that you recognize from YF. Best of luck with your new craft!

Welcome aboard David!

CTDave, didn't you own a Post a few years back?

I seem to recall we chatted about a run to Block ...

Welcome David, perhaps you will share with us some of your experiences that you lived to tell about.

When are you going to get over this Post-partum thing and get a real boat? :D

Hey Randy, what are you doing in the tech section?

Hi Dave,
We chatted when you bought the 50 and were getting ready to bring it home.
I used to be a CT Dave as I grew up in Norwalk. I see we both watch the salvage sites. Welcome to the forum. You will find it is friendlier here than YF. Dave

I dunno, what are you doing on a Hatteras owner's forum?

Sorry to take away from your hello thread David, but we'd hate for you to get the wrong impression about this place. :D

Love ya' Jim. :)

Welcome Dave! from one of the other 50 Hatt owners from CT.

Yes, I did have a 42 Post which I bought around 2000. I remember a conversation or two as well!

I can not confirm nor deny what I may or may not have done with any of those women at any of those mind altering parties or bazaar places where I might have woken up surprised that I wasn't in jail.
Not to worry about hijacking anything I post. I'm not all that serious.

I do remember you as well! What part of the world are you calling home these days?

Hey, I wasn't worried, I just wanted to make a good impression on you as a new member. :D

Like Dave said, you'll be a MUCH better fit on here than on that other place, even if you didn't own a Hatt. I'm still waiting for details on the events you described. Pictures are always good too.

Here, have some of my imported popcorn.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

34 Hatt, I just started reading about the Greenport run. Sounds like fun!

Freebird, I can tell you just one for now and it's quite ironic. I happend to meet a young lady working in a.....eh hem....entertainment establishment where she worked as a "fine arts" dancer. Her stage name was "Freebird". One thing led to another and later that night (or morning) we were on a yacht I was living aboard & the song freebird came on the radio. Needless to say, this got her going.......

Welcome to the site and good luck with your new boat.

Where in Maderia Beach? I get out there a few times a year. Might be back there next week or so. Would you be interested in helping empty adult beverage containers?
