  1. OWNER - I own a different brand
Hatteras Model
63' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1987)
Recently had the folks from Z-Kool come out to the boat and price their patented silver coat window film for the lower helm. Let's just say the price given was rather high. Correction, it was crazy high.

Today, I did an online search for DIY options and my eyes just glazed over with all the choices.

What I want is a high performance window film that is mostly clear. Not interested in 1 way mirror effect or heavy tinting.

Any recommendations?

Z-Cool or V-Cool ?

I ve had V-Cool installed on the 3 forward skylounge glass panes of the 84 Lazzara i run. About $500 for each panel although it s pretty effective and absolutely transparent

V-Cool.

They wanted just under $2000 for the lower helm station.

I know their product is good, but for 2 grand I can run my AC for a long time.

Yeah but no good in forward glass for enclosed helms. V Cool is transparent and doesn’t affect night vision

The side windows are not that hard to do yourself, though the forward windows are a bear to get to. We cover our front windows when docked anyways, and heat isn't an issue while running.

I think 3m makes a transparent film that blocks out the heat but doesn't affect visibility at all. I remember somebody saying only dealers can install it. It recall it being slightly more expensive than tint.

My plan was to get some installed on the hatt and my RV

critstaline is the 3m product, it works great and very very little tint

I had that installed on an i3 a few years ago, including the front window. It comes in various shades with the lightest being essentially clear. Very happy with the results.

We had the 3M ceramics (IIRC) to our pilot house windows and the 3 forward facing windows are a clear version that actually reduced glare for night vision. We have had it for about 6 years and have been very happy with the product.

The previous owners of my 61' put V-Cool on every piece of glass on the boat and as far as heat rejection goes I have never seen anything better. It is what they use on all the big yachts with acres of glass. As far as the price goes it is CRAZY EXPENSIVE, and very difficult to install properly. You need a professional installer as the process is not the same as just throwing on some 3m window tint.

They probably spent around $15,000. I bought some of the film from a dealer in Florida to do 5 small hatches on my 44' sailboat and it ended up costing me about $400 per hatch. The stuff really works. I can put my hand up against the glass in the salon in direct sunlight in the middle of the day and can't feel the heat. I am in St Maarten.
