  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Our heat and A/C work fine on shore power. As soon as we switch to the Genset it appears that the seawater pump and fan just stop. Go back to shore power and it's back to normal. Any ideas? It appears that all the other 60 hz stuff works normal on the Genset.

We are considering adding a second depth finder. What is the consensus on this? How far apart do the thru hulls need to be? We were thinking of one on each side of the keel as we spend most or time at 10 knots or less.

Both of the heads seem to "flush" fine but the sea water flow is poor to none after the fact. We are going to do the "barnacle blaster" treatment but suspect there might be more to this. What say you?

The Admiral is looking for a source for a shower curtain for the Forward head. (43 DC) Where does she start?

The Admiral and I would also like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season, Fair winds and following seas for the next year!

Check if you have both hot and neutral on the pump when on the genny. Could be the system is nit aired correctly. There is no cmd when on genny.

Are you switching the second panel for the HVAC over to the genset side? Should be located in a locker on the port side.

Yes, check that the a/c panel is active, also, on the heads, check strainers and intake impellers.
Try Sam for the shower curtain or a big RV outlet. Home Depot may be able to help also.

What Beachcomber said. Check the panel in the first locker at the bottom of the stairs to the aft stateroom. The AC panel is in that locker. It needs to be flipped to the genny also.

Many thanks to all!!! I am not switching at the HVAC panel so I am sure that is the problem!!!

Not sure about your boat but if you shower curtain track is like ours, you can find plastics tabs that fit the channel at Sailrite.com ans attach those to whatever shower curtain you would like to use.

You can also check RV sources as their wet heads are usually similar to marine heads when it comes tp the shower.

OK we got most of it figgred out and thanks for all the help. And....no one has busted my chops for not being able to count.

Now what about the second depth finder? This boat is going to spend most of it's time in the intercoastal or on the loop. Is it worth the expense to have a spare? We are on the hard now and will be until late March.

Yes or no and why please

Russ and the Admiral:cool:

I have two depth sounders, one on each side, and really like the set-up. I think mine may use different frequencies because they sometimes read differently when I get passed in shallow water. One will show noise while the other continues to read. Also the redundancy is valuable to me as I run near 400 hours a year. The manufacturers should be able to guide you on details about how close to mount the transducers, frequencies that might interfere etc. I have found Humminbird tech service to be really good....no afilliation etc.

+1

In my opinion the most important navigation tools on the ICW are a good set of binoculars and your depth sounder, then a chart book like Kettlewell's for the AICW and you are good to go. So redundancy is good.
