Geez... why bother grinding the paint outa the hole when you can slice up the housing instead? Is that antique of yours 32 vdc??? ws
 
Antique of mine? As I recall, my antique was the next one built after your antique. Yes, the 58 is still 32V. Did you change your's? I forget.
 
Your guages aren't 32V unless you've got something diffrent than most of us. Your guages should be 12V running off a converter box or fitted with resistors. The only guage that's 32V is the volt meter.

Ya'll need to ship me a dime bag-o-dat shit yer smokin' there bird! First the threds about gas Hatts, then antique gages, then our 58s... man, yer like a cheap suit, yer all over the place.
BTW... the 58s gages are all mechanical except for the voltmeters and the 32 vdc lamps in'em.
Ahhh! I got it... ya wanna go retro-retro on the 58, er 41, ah,ah, maybe a flybridge on the blazer... now wheres them rolling papers.... ws

Well I sure didn't know that and just assumed they were 32V. I hate to admit it, but I don't remember what gauges I have on the 58, but I'm 99% sure they're Stewart Warner, top and bottom. There's nothing marked on them as to Hatteras, and I never thought of them in terms of being mechanical. Quite frankly, I've never looked.

If these boats came with mechanical gauges from the factory, why are so many of you making a fuss about installing mechanical gauges in the ER? Sure, they come in handy when you're down there with them, but I always thought their primary purpose was to verify the electronic stuff was reading correctly.

Yep, I'm still learning, and no Willie, I don't smoke dope. My lungs are as pink as the day I was born. :D
 
The 58s oil and trans pressure are straight mechanicals...via a 1/4" hose. The temps may be electric and i will look tomorrow for sure. They should be SW or AC... I forget; must be that black lung disease LOL.
Being a 20 foot run, the oil pressure gages have a 15 second lag and ER units will be a lot faster, plus you can look things over like belts and HOSES! The same stuff you look at when your underway hourly! ws

Yeah, but assuming you wait 15 seconds for that first ER check, shouldn't it all work out the same?

Maybe what you're saying is by the time the gauge reads no oil pressure on the bridge, you've done 15 seconds of damage. Could be a man needs to install a control station in the ER along with a periscope, just to be on the safe side. Just think of how much time and energy you'd save not having to do those hourly checks. We're not getting any younger.
