  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
New models put Irma more to the west. A little ways out but she needs to be monitored

This has been a very bad year for weather phenomenons. Texas, now California and Florida. Damn.

I really don't like the looks of this one. I've been watching it all week and wondering if would would stay south of the US

We are cutting our Key West trip short and heading back up to mainland this week, but trying to decide if we should head for west coast or east coast of FL.

On my boat in St Maarten watching Irma very closely. This one could get very big. I moved from Florida to get away from this crap.

Latest model(s) indicate a swing up toward the north......might still be too early to tell with confidence but if it does what the models show it will miss Florida.
See the attached.

Good website Rsmith, thanks for the info.

The front that will push to the west from the Carolinas/Florida around Tue will bear the greatest impact on where she heads. Continued westerly pattern would be ideal, if it bears north, could get ugly for the east coast

Smart move.

I woudl wait till Tuesday to decide, typically until a system passes the leewards its hard to know where it's going to recurve. This one looks like it will recurve but it s too early to be sure. If it recurves but close you may be better off staying key west or head up to Naples.

If you are making a decision where to run from Key West, I recommend going to Fort Myers to River Forrest Marina. It is one lock up the Okeechobbee so no storm surge and built for hurricane protection.

Call ahead because they are not a secret.

Freestyle - I wasn't familiar with that (River Forest) marina, looks like a good option, especially with uncertainty on projected path.

Pascal - I was planning to make a "go / no go" decision late Monday. I might wait until Tuesday, and if there is not a relatively good indication on easterly vs westerly, then the marina mentioned above might be my best bet.

Thank you both for the inputs, much appreciated.

Jerry

Make the call as early as you can. I'm on the hard at RF Stuart. Last year there was a three mile line of traffic waiting to pass the St Lucie lock to get hauled for Matthew. RF is a first class operation.

That would be two locks up the river. Franklin and Ortona Locks are both below the marina.

Things are getting dicey for Bahamas's and east coast fla

This will be a major storm regardless of the track. Looks like it will hit the Bahamas and from there who knows. Unfortunately out does seem likely this will be a major problem for the US be it east coast or gulf. Question know seems to be where and when. Maybe we'll all get lucky and it will turn sooner and head out to the middle Atlantic.

Horrible news. Good luck.

Hopefully it will turn out to sea but one thing's for sure, when Florida finds itself in the cone people lose their minds here. I'm prepping now so I can avoid everywhere (gas stations, grocery , hd, etc.) next week.

Latest report from Chris Parker is not good for the Bahamas. Odds of a Fl. hit are now around 10%. Time will tell. Gonna be ugly no matter where it hits. We were on Long Island Bahamas late Spring and I will tell you those folks cannot get a break.

Got this in a fortune cookie a few weeks ago. Prophetic?
