I have read all the threads about heads. Ours is a Groco electric which is OK but noisy and has a hard time dealing with large waste material. (Did I make that problem understandable without crossing the vulgarity line?). We think we would like to upgrade. I am having a real problem trying to find the required space for the required Vacu-Flush parts. Our '86 36C is a bit tight for space in or near the head. I have read all the Vacu-Flush literature about where and how the pump and vacuum tank should be mounted and it just ain't gonna happen on a later 36C. I would have to eliminate most of our only closet and I would hate to do that. Sky talks highly about the Raritan Atlantes and I think I could cram that in with a remote mounted pump in the engine room. Doing the fresh water thing would require a vented loop on the inlet hose and that would have to be in the closet. I guess I am thinking about using sea water with the pump near the through hull fitting in the engine room. Lots of room there for both the pump and the water filter. Am I on the right track?

Maynard,

I just purchased and installed an Atlantes A812 saltwater head. It has everything built right into the toilet itself, even the seawater pump. If you're going seawater, might as well get everything all built right into the same space! It's relatively quiet, operates and looks great. If you do a search for it online, you can save quite a bit of money. BW and West wanted almost $1500 for it, but I found it for $880 or so...I don't have the site handy, but will look for it if you need it.

I think it's the best way to go besides the Vacu-Flush...but where are we going to put the "guts" of the thing? My floor panels aren't that big, and I really didn't want to clutter the engine room with it...so that left me with the Atlantes.

If you have any questions about the install, ask away!

how far is the head from the ER on your boat ? no room there ?

how about installing the vac tank under the floor, even in the Vee...

This summer I had installed 2 Raritan SeaEra fresh water heads. I'm happy with the price, performance, quietness. They are self contained except for the solenoid that allows the FW in at flush. You may want to give them a look.

Maynard, I can tell you that the Raritan Atlantes are great heads. We had 40+ people aboad Sunday and the heads didn't skip a beat.

Pascal, the hoses go forward through the head wall and into a small area below the floor of the only small closet. The Y valve is there so the little floor of the closet lifts up. One hose now goes between the floor and the hull stringers. No room at all there. I can't even get my hand in there. The other outlet hose goes through a sealed small passageway between the shower and the hull. This hose then appears in the engine compartment and goes about 3 feet to the thru-hull. It would be easy to mount the vacuum pump/tank in the engine compartment but I would not be able to get a sewer hose from there to the holding tank or Y valve.
