Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
My 43', 1979 Double Cabin has three exhaust fans and none of them work. The problem I am having is that I can not access any one of them. One is located on the port side servicing the forward head. One is on the starboard side servicing the galley and the last one is also on the starboard side servicing the aft head.

I can not find a panel anywhere that can be removed. Am I missing something? I would appreciate any advice.

Jim

Mine for both of my heads are behind the closet. I had to remove the back wall of the closet ot find them. It was not listed on any of the Hatteras documentation. I stuck a piece of stiff wire in the intake, like coat hanger wire in to figure out where the hose went and then followed looking for a pannel that was removeable. Hope this helps even though our boats are different

OK ... for the aft head exhaust fan you have to remove the starboard storage locker in the salon (the one with four doors) just back out the screws in the trim but make sure to hold on to it as it will tip out when the last screw is out. (If yours is like mine the Electronics Panel is inside this locker but there is enough slack in the wiring to allow the cabinet to be removed to where you can work inside it) Once the cabinet is removed look inside and aft. For the exhaust fan for the gallery you have to remove the panel on the inside of the storage locker to the right of the galley range. For the exhaust fan for the forward head you have to remove the storage compartment above the dinette table ... same set up as the starboard storage compartment ... just unscrew the screws in the trim.

You might want to have a small shop vac handy as these areas were pretty dusty and needed a good cleaning. Good luck!

Aren't the head exaust fans supposed to make death rattle sounds? One of mine does, and it's been buried behind the davit pole. Oh, joy. I'm sure looking forward to changing that one.

On this same subject, where do you but 32v fans?

Lucky ... my aft head exhaust fan made that awful rattling noise you make reference to ... I found that the mounting bracket had cracked ... I was actually able to use an oversized washer to secure it ... now no rattles!

Aren't those three blowers 110 V.A.C.?

eze2bme; Thanks for the information on access to the blowers. I knew about the aft head but not the two forward ones.

Will

Yes ... the exhaust fans are 110 volt.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I am currently land locked and will not be able to tear into this until early October. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Jim

Jim,
You can get the original exhaust fans from Grainger.
