Recently I found an old Hatteras helm console (for the inside station of 36 conv or similar) which I think will fit my boat. During the process of having my boat painted, I filled all the holes in the helm console and had the shop spray it to match the boat. I am 99% certain this is the identical item to what is already in the boat, will know for certain in the next few days.
I don't need two of these. Would anyone want the console which is coming out of my boat, to use in restoring an older Hatteras with an inside station, as I did? I would give it away to anyone who would use it for same and will pay the cost of shipping it to them. You would have to fill a few holes, not too bad, and then paint it as I did the one I found. They are fairly sturdy fiberglass moldings. (of course, then you have to move all the instruments and switches, which is the hard part)
Email me at jimbo1907@comcast.net if you think you might want this piece. If you have takeoff items from 1971 vintage boats, and want to trade, that's fine too.

Console Still Avail?

I have a 43' DC from which the helm counsel was removed. I define the counsel as the fiberglas box, on which the two seats were mounted. The seating now is two 4-5" posts with leather Recaro seats on each.

If this is the type of counsel to which you refer, I am quite interested, so I can replace the posts with a better platform and some storage space.

I hope you still have the counsel.

Quincy, I am afraid we are talking about two different things. What I have is a triangular/trapezoidal unit that sits on top of the inside counter under the triple windshield on a two-station convertible. All of the engine instruments and some of the switches are mounted into this molded piece; the gauges, pull switches for lights, blower, wipers, etc.
I believe these units were used on a lot of the small-to-medium size Hatteras yachts in the sixties and seventies. As I said, it's free to anyone who wants it, if they'll pay shipping. I can try to take some digital pictures and email them to interested parties if need be, I would just like to see it back on a Hatteras- and out of my little garage.

console

I have a 1969 38dc. The instrument console is composed of a wood grain formica lower portion which holds the switches, and an upper section which is a metal plate that holds the gaauges. (If you look at the brochure for the 38dc, it is shown.) If this sounds like what you have, I am interested. I am at cememike@yahoo.com.

After i sent my reply, I looked at the brochure for the 36, and realize that what you have will not match mine. Thanks, Mike.

helm console

No problem. I may have called this the wrong thing; maybe it would be better to call it the instrument housing, as what it does is hold all the gauges for the downstairs station. (I mean inside station, sorry) I still have it if someone wants it.

lower station

Could you send a digital pic, I would be interested. I am redoing a 41 and it might just work fine. I had a cabin fire and am trying to fix on the cheap--it has cost too much so far Thanks

Email me directly at jimbo1907@comcast.net, and I will get a digital picture of the inside helm console and email it to you. It is probably the same item you are looking for: kind of wedge-shaped, has holes for the gauges in the front face, and sort of a lip over that. I owuld be happy to give it to you if you'll pay the shipping, if it is what you need. I am in the Chesapeake Bay area, in Annapolis. If you are nearby I will deliver it.
