Hatteras Model
74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
I have a Hatteras bib on my bow labeled fresh water wash down. Can that bib be used to accept a dockside water connection? It would be nice not to have to run the hose from the dock all the way back to the pilot house. Or, is it likely that there is a one way valve that would prevent water from coming in that fitting? Also, would I need a different Hatteras (Parking ) fitting?

Good question, but wouldn't that bypass your water pressure regulator, and filter, if you have one? Perhaps try it and see what you get without opening the dockside valve full blast so you don't over pressurize something that might not be able to handle full pressure from the dock.

I use the fresh water washdown on my bow for back fed shore water, but as correctly stated by Angela, you are on the low side of the pressure regulator. I made up a pressure regulator/filter that attaches to the wash down and connect the dock hose to that. BTW, I also use the external regulator/filter on the aft shore water inlet, just to protect the plumbing prior to the regulator.

Any idea where I might get the pressure regulator/filter needed to safely use the wash down bib for incoming water?

Any hardware store should have what you need. Our local true value has the same regulators in stock that Hatt used for the FW system. I was going to replace ours because it was chattering but disassembly/cleaning took care of the problem.

The route I went was a smaller unit rated at 15 GPH with a guage. Can be seen here: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/adjustable-water-regulator-lead-free/49511[/url]. For the filter I went to Lowes and got a house plastic case filter unit and some charcoal filters. Can be seen on the Lowes web site as item number 89374

Regulator and filter added dockside with check valve. Working perfectly. Now, no water hose running along the side deck. Thanks to all for the help. BTW, I also noticed a fresh water wash down bib on my cockpit. That is also a viable option since I have fresh water dockside back there as well.
