  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Does anyone out there know the size "diameter" of your engine and throttle cables for the 53Hatt MY . Looking at mine they appear to be old (1972) morse, (now teleflex) but definitely larger in diameter than the standard 10/32 threaded Teleflex. About 1/4" diameter on mine. Also noted control levers morse are fitted with extensions that allow for clamping further down the cable at the shifting controls. Looks like a professional retrofit, with red metal extensions. Is this familiar to anyone or unique to me? I will stay with the heavier cables if its necessary , teleflex makes a 1/4" 28 thread. Would go with the lighter cables and change the ends if I thought the 1/4 were over kills. Anyone know about these cables ? Thanks Captwoodyb

Those should be 4300CC cables they have clamp mounts at both ends and 1/4 x28 ends. They are much stronger than the 33C cables with 10-32 ends and can handle a sharper bend (5' vs 8"). Recomend you replace with what is there..

Thanks for the response. Makes sense to stay with what works. Looks like I can use the same end connectors at the motor as well as the shifting controls . Not real clear as to what they mean by clamp end and bulkead ends are they the same. Looks like I have threaded ends screwing into brass square mounts at the shift controls and a arrow head looking fitting the cable screws into and fits down over a bayonet with a cotter key holding it in place on the engines. I m thinking as long as the cable is the same size I can use the fittings already in place.

The cables should be clamp end type. The metal end of the outer housing of the cable has a groovecut in it. A metal U shaped piece fits into the groove and is held in place with a small screw, fixing the outer housing in place. On bulkhead mounts, the cable goes through a hole and is then attached with a screw or C clip. Both ends of your cable should be clamp mount (4300CC) The CC means clamp on both ends, (4300BC) has a clamp on one end and bulkhead mount on other.

If similar to Morse 33cc, should have the length of the cable stamped on the end(s?).
