Talked with a lucky buddy of mine who remained employeed at Hatteras throughout their bad spell. He told me that they sold some boats at the boat show and were calling back a little of the work force. That's good news for them. Don't tell Obama, he will probable take the boats that were sold and give it to some foreign country as he bows down like a ------------.

Its nice to hear that they are calling back some workers. It would be even better to hear that they were calling back some of their customers. I still find it hard to believe that they won't even answer an email about a refurb.

Amen! I was looking at refurbing the forward staterooms and stairs - and would obviously prefer Hatt do the work. Appears they won't be interested in my little job.......

Well, you could call them, I suppose. But a job like that I would be more inclined to take to Jarrett Bay. I've seen mostly older 80 to 100 footers over at the plant. Another place you might try in your general area OBX is Atlantic Yacht Basin in Great Bridge.
I have also been very happy with the service at Thunderbolt Marine in Savannah (a great place to have to lay over), though they mostly focus on the mega yacht market, but boy do they ever stand behind their work.

Yeah, there are several great places up and down the Atlantic to do this kind of work, including a couple in Ft Lauderdale. Thanks for the recommendations.

My comment was more of an observation that Hatteras makes a "splash" about getting into the "retro" business, but only selectively. It's kind of like, "Yeah, we know you've got a Hatteras - and she was a beauty in her day - but we don't want to mess with that little stuff now...."

Regal boats in orlando just announced they are hiring 100.
Correct craft also rehired a few workers and are now producing boats 5 days a week up from just 3.
