Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series II (1986 - 1991)
O.K. now we are organized with the HOYC (Hatteras Owners Yacht Club) and have a burgee in design we need a hugh event to kick it off.

So I think we should get a chase boat and cruise across to Europe. If we could get a plan together to make 10 kts at 1 NMPG then 20 boats would use about 50,000 gallons.

I figure at $3.00 a gallon that would only be $7,500.00. I have no idea what a chase boat would cost but it would be a trip of a lifetime. Not including traveling around Europe for the summer.

We keep'em running with a minichase boat off the big chase boat with spare parts.

C'mon all you couch potatoes lets see what's in your wallet, or there abouts LOL :D

If a bunch of Nordhavens can do it we can. For years everyone has always said how great our boats are underway. Time to prove it.

Lyods of London for crossing insurance.

I've always wanted to take Elizabeth Nicole to Europe via one of those Ocean transport jobs that flood then you drive her on. I checked once, I believe they are around $25K one way.

The preparation would be a blast and game day, actually pointing the nose towards the rock and shoving off would be priceless. Arriving in Europe would be to die for, it would make not only Boating News it would make World News Tonight.

If we got lucky and had decent weather and sea state it might actually be pretty uneventful.

If it is 2500NM at 10 kts then thats 250 hrs. However if we only use one engine then the other thats only 125 hrs per engine. Change oil when we get there. Run genny 4-8 hours per day thats only 40-80 hours change oil when we get there. One thing for sure your yacht would be ship shape after, if it wasn't before. But I suggest it be shipeshape before departure. ;)

Have fun using your YACHT garyd

Sounds like great fun...in a Nordhavn!:D

I understand, from an insider, that the Nordhavn crossing was a nightmare. He allows as how "the true story will never be told" and the published stories are very much sanitized as compared to the reality.

I think I'll take the QM2 and meet you there. ;)

LOL O.K. New plan. QM2 tows 20 Hatteras's across Atlantic while Hatt owners party on her fan tail while trying to hit the last hatt with a water ballon slingshot.

Sound Better.

250o miles without a place to stop? Why not run the cruise around the east coast to the islands and back so we have a place to stop and party. Also less need for the motherships.

I vote for this one sorry Garry but keep up the good work and Ideas ;)

That's what Columbus's crew said (lets just cruise around here) but ole Chris said point it West boys point it WEST. We will just be doing it in reverse until we come home.

C'mon a bunch of rag baggers do this all the time sometimes with just the admiral and sometimes with just the dog. Come to think of it the dog complains less. Hay they may be on to something. And they do it all alone, no other boats along side for comfort

Ah but the cost of rum and fuel is about equal in some of the islands. Sometimes you cant taste the differance either but its all fun.

The idea of going for days without sight of land got old years ago when I was on the tall ship.We were self contained. Cold non running water and a hand pump. Toilets with a hand pump. A diesel stove with you guessed it a hand pump. A girlfriend who wouldnt give me a hand or a pump. Too many bad memories.

If the fun of travel is the journey there wouldnt it be better to get to 20 places instead of just one? Then we would have journed 20 times.

So, you could start in the San Juans (you know, Washington State - you HAVE heard of Washington State, haven't you? I know it's the other side of the world from Florida, but the gunkholding is absolutely a blast...)

then go South to Mex and the Canal. Then up through the Islands, then along the Other coast, then through the St Lawrence (?), and down the Big Muddy, then along the other side of Fl, back down the Islands, back through the Canal, back up Mex and back to Washington State.

Should only take about 36 months. (But there is Rum all along the way.)

I suggest we start from Florida, head to the islands. Make circles around the islands for 2500 miles all the while eating lobster, conch, fish of all kinds and washed down with vast quantities of various boat drinks. Then we could stagger home. :p

How about a cruise to Venezuala for some of that $.17 fuel???? :D

The fuel may be cheap but they may want to "nationalize" the boats of any Capitolist Dogs.

Send the tanker to venezuala for the fuel so we can have it in the US for $.25 a gallon and call it "revenge de dialbo".

I KNEW IT...sooner or later there had to be a flame, joke or whatever on the price we pay for fuel...it is so utterly ridiculous.
So why not pickup the idea?...coming down wouldn't be as difficult or risky as crossing to Europe. Following the islands, I doubt there is a single day that you don't see land. And once here you could come to Morrocoy.

The ideal agenda would be planned to start and finish in my home port, so it's the most convienent for ME. Heh Heh Sorry if it's a little far for most of the forum members.....

O.k. O.K. O.K.

Got it a group starts out from Alaska gathering yachts as they go through Panama to Venezuela.

Another group starts out of Maine gathering Yachts as they go through the islands to Venezuela.

We all meet at mike53's house for a giant party. Then we switch boats and return them to their port and then fly home. TADA.

We'l try Europe sometime after that. ;)

Have fun yachting garyd

Mi casa es tu casa.....and Aguamala Too ready to join the get together.
I'll be at the Boat Show so we can polish details.

I still like the idea of the Transatlantic, but set it up as a race against the SeaRay guys...we can have the satisfaction of watching them break down and peel off one by one, especially if the seas are over 3'.

Hell it could be factory sponsered and each brand could have their crews supporting the boats. If we are going to do that we need to set a minimum age of the vessels. I thing 15 years old plus. Anyone know of a searay over 15 years old in shape for this?

The first day might be fun as they all head out on plane to get ahead, but then what happens when their SeaTow coverage stops bringing out fuel every time they run out? Heck, they hold enough fuel that they might actually be able to leave cell phone range if they head due-west. Then what?

Neat idea...but it would just be a mess, with each one of us having at least one in tow after the first day.
