Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Now that I have the time.... Does anyone know is there's going to be a school in 2013???

Roger W posted a nice holiday message yesterday and mentioned he was hoping to do another school.

I attended the first one and it was terrific. I would however, like to suggest that in addition to the general Hatteras 1.0 curriculum, perhaps we can put together one or more 2.0 level courses that could even happen at the same time.

I'm thinking a detailed Detroit maintenance and basic repair class that digs deeper in to developing a real world annual and multi-year maintenance regimen for our boats and perhaps take the attendees through the 5-10 most frequent repair issues on our two cycles.

Also perhaps a similar deep dive into some other systems like A/C, alarm, wiring, plumbing with a focus on the best material, systems to use as we inevitably modernize our boats.

A good example would be adding inverters. It seems to be a monthly discussion here and perhaps Sam's could even benefit by developing a holistic kit that includes units, wiring switches and wiring diagrams to sell as a package.

Another could be upgrading tank senders, as our old ones continue to fail, many of us have gone from the old mechanicals to WEMA senders... that would be a terrific package Steve could sell as a complete upgrade kit. He could figure out sizes per Hatteras model and then just ship out everything needed to complete the upgrade.

Just saying :)

I noticed Florida Detroit Diesel is still offering their 2 cycle basic training course in Ft. Lauderdale. I can never get the timing to work out, but maybe this June.

Barring that, I know a couple of good mechanics that are also very articulate and good teachers. One in Morehead City NC near Roger and Bruce, another in Baltimore who is a very good teacher in particular. Maybe they could recruit them.

Sadly I'm more of a .5 Not even at a 1.0 level......

While we are on this topic There is a great guy in Charleston that gets my recommendation. His name is Aaron Vickers. I hired him to do the engine surveys and oil analisys. We has already shown me how to adjust the valves, Run the rack and an injector change.

They purr like kittens. Noticable difference!

PM me for details

Agree with you about Aaron. Great guy!!

Just wondering, did anyone go to the Ft Lauderdale Detroit School recently?

I could not fit it into my schedule, but I am seriously considering the school in June.
