dont want to paraphrase this one so you will have to look up Randy's post about his cruise.

ok. I finally found the referenced "maiden voyage" thread. All i can say is that that thread ought to be required reading for all new forum members even remotely thinking about buying an older hatt. That model year 2001 42' express my wife wants suddenly sounds a lot more appealing!! :D

Randy, hats off to you. I don't think I would be as light hearted about what you went through on that ordeal.

A couple of lessons to be learned from "Maiden Voyage" thread:

Confirm fuel levels for yourself before leaving dock with new (to you) boat!!!

Bring CASES of spare fuel filters on every voyage, not just maiden ones!!!

I am sure that there are other lessons to be learned, but those are the two blatantly obvious ones to me.

Okay guys, I'm on Freebird now, and all's right with the world.

No, that wasn't me and Freebird in the video. I know how to handle big boats in big currents! When I find myself in such a situation, I approach the bridge, or whatever, stern first with the bow facing the current. You have much better control that way as to being able to bale out at the last minute if you see you aren't going to make it. I too made the same observation as Jim. If there was something so dang great on the other side of that bridge, why the heck did he turn around? Then they guy with the camera yells, "put it in reverse" AFTER they guy de-arches his boat!!! :D

As for the comments on my "Maiden Voyage From Hell", this only shows that I don't get excited over things. Hey, ship happens! The way I see it, if ole' Freebird hadn't got her wing broke, I wouldn't be in FL right now, I wouldn't have met as many members of this forum, and I'd be freezing my small donkey off in TN with side by side Hatts. Life is all about timing, there's only so much planning you can do. In the big picture of life, we're all just along for the ride with little chance of keeping our hands on the wheel!

And Tony, welcome again to the land of unsolicited opinions from the "experts".

Good point Randy, Seems things happen for a Reason. I can think of many times a big negative turned out to be a hidden positive. Besides it gives everyone something to rag you about.

LOL Hey, I can take raggin' from folks I like. Maybe that ought to tell me something about why my wife's raggin' gets MY panties in a wad!

Yeah, life is only as serious as you choose to take it. My advice, put it in the hands of the only "Person" who can truly get you through it, and sit back and enjoy the ride.

If you think that all of that can't happen the same way with a 2001 well all I will say is GOOD LUCK ;)

Yep, there is no such thing as a fool-proof, break-proof, or sink-proof boat, no matter it's age or manufacturer.

Like I tell my safe customers their is no such thing as "fire-proof". That's just another meaningless term such as bullet-proof or idiot-proof. A retard with a big ole' 50 cal BAR will prove both those points after he kills you in your "bullet-proof" vest and then looks down the barrel to see if there's another bullet in there and checks by pulling the trigger.

Goll dang dude, you're bringing tears to my eyes. There IS a serious side to Ole' FREEBIRD. :)

Words to live by!
