The PO did not use the 3 toilets all that much for the 14 years they owned the boat. It stayed at dockside most of the time, and they mostly used the Marina's facilities. They said they periodically "cleaned out" the bowl to prevent salt deposit build up due to evaporation using white vinegar, and flushed them on a regular basis (guessing monthly but not sure of the interval).
Questions about long term nonuse and it consequences in relation to the entire sanitation system from head to sea (2 discharge to the Sea / 1 has a 50 gallon holding tank).
Can I / should I even attempt to flush using white vinegar and two cups of a %10 solution of water and muriatic acid, continuously in 5 minutes intervals, slowly pushing it thru the system? Will salt crystals damage the impeller or pump?
I also read that a few drops of mineral oil, monthly, helps keep the pump and internal rubber in shape, is that a good idea or should I use different oil?
Should I add anything to keep the holding tank "healthy" after a pump out?
I am unsure what the best course of action to take. Most posts about toilets show that they are a PITA to fix (or at the least a stinky /messy job). I would like to minimize that potential, now and in the future.
Any and all comments, thoughts or ideas are welcome. I wouldn't want to do something that just makes it worse or end up B.O.A.T. to fix.
Lastly, I do not expect to use the boat all that much for the next 2 years or so because I'm waiting for "the Admiral" to retire. We do expect to use the boat 3-4 times a year for a week or more. My question is: between use (2 months or more) should I add something in the toilet basin /system to prevent stagnant water salt and scale buildup, or am I just over thinking this to the nth degree?
BTW: the toilets are the Raritan Atlantes Freedom model.
Thanks,
