  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1988)
Sent PM's to the members that identify themselves as current 54MY owners, as I was trying to concentrate the response from those that are operating approximately the same vessel. However, posting here to allow that group to share info if they choose to. My PM message:

I've had my 1987 Hatteras 54 MY for a little over a year now, and have enjoyed running her on the Chesapeake as I shake down and get familiar with all the systems. I contacted this list by PM, as everyone here lists as a current 54MY owner of the same vintage, and I wanted to see if anyone is willing to share experiences on the same basic vessel.

Specifically, I'm interested in anyone's experiences with their worst sea/weather conditions. I've run her in Gale warnings on the Bay, but nothing I'd consider very severe. As I'm planning to start running up & down ICW and coastal over the next couple years, just want to benchmark folks' experiences in various types of seas & weather conditions. Any stories you're willing to share would be great.

She runs 675HP 8V92TI DD's. Wilcox stabilizers; serviced a couple years ago, surveyed last year, and seem to operate fine, but can't say they've been challenged. Keep a tender up top, so probably the normal amount of top loading.

Thanks for anything you're willing to share.

Best,
Bob Storey

I ran a mid 80s 54 MY a few years back from
Savannah to Tampa. Solid boat, great in head seas like all hatts. We got quartering seas (4’) in the gulf on the last day and the Naiads got a work out. Auto pilot couldn’t keep up and had to hand steer the whole way. But that’s typical of pretty much every MY
