  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Direct tv ch 277, playing now replaying at midnight.

Not a great show but intesting footage of the hatt 80 MY being built along with sunseeker.

Yes. I'm watching it now. Nice to see Hatteras getting some exposure.

Cover it up. The boat looks like a euro trash cruiser. That's the wrong type of exposure for a builder of classic vessels.

They did show pictures of the original Hatt at least...

I am not a big fan of the current hatteras MY line up but hatteras is not a builder of classic vessels... Hatteras is a builder which at a time produced modern, ground breaking boats which then became classic. Big difference there.

Unfortunately in the past 15 to 20 years they have completely lost that edge and become just another builder.

It was amazing to see how Hatt is copying Lazarra. The gloss interiors in grays and black are really similar as are the exterior lines (which I hate ).

I don't much like them, either, but what I really hope is that someone or someones with a lot of money likes them enough to buy them. And keeps liking them and tells all their rich friends about their boat. So they buy one, too.

It is my understanding that Hatteras sold all their old parts to the sponser of this thread, if I am mistaken feel free to correct me. I seriously doubt the old school idea of supporting a product forever is long gone, Hatteras could care less about the owners of the older classics. That being said, does anyone here really think Hatteras gives a hoot about what we think, most of us here are not going to buy a new boat of any kind. The days of the classic looking boat are gone, the younger money crowd is into the plastic fantastic look, and that is where they are looking to go. I think the new designs look like crap, but then I have always had a more classic older style boat. If they werent so darn much work, I would still have a nice wooded double planked boat with all the great looking lines, teak, and varnish. To me nothing can compare to many of those old beauties, I am particularily fond of the old Chris Craft Connies and Egg Harbors.

boatnut, i have to disagree with you just a little about the hatteras people not caring about the classic owners. the still offer owners manuals for our older boats, and the sponsor this site..

I have to also disagree about no one wanting classic new boats. Look at the "trawler" crowd. They are buying new classic looking designs that look very similar to the old Hatteras LRC and motoryachts.

I agree with Sky. Fleming, Grand Banks, Marlow , Offshore and a host of other Asian manufactured brands have feasted on the very market Hatteras abandoned. Just as I was warming a bit to some of the newer Hatt designs, I saw a new 80MY cruising past our house on the Neuse yesterday on initial pre-commissioning sea trial. It looked like the much-maligned 63/64 MY of a few years ago on steroids, with "windows" on the hull side for the master SR borrowed directly from newer Sea Rays, which in turn were borrowed from Azimuth. (Sigh..) Of course this boat would have been designed under the Brunswick regime, but golly. I hear around town they are doing more business in the Mid East and South America, no idea how accurate that is or what bearing that has on design. If you are in the mideast, something from Italy or the Netherlands would seem to make more sense.
