These are some pictures my mother took of my Grandpa's 53, VIDA-B, in August, 1979.

What a Decca 110 looked like when it was "state of the art"

The dude in the plaid pants is actually my Uncle. Dad is the skinny dude with the 60's outfit. :)

I can't figure out why anyone would think those pants might stick out in a crowd... ;)

Wow, Tom, what memories! We wintered every year at Walstoms. I probably saw you and that boat several times. My dad had a 43DC in 79 named O.B. Joyful. It had the traditional Hatteras blue stripes and a flybridge.

Neat pics. Thanks for sharing.

I remember your 43DC, those are great looking boats. I also remember when you had the Gulfstar 49 at the Holiday Inn circa 1987. I am really dating myself here! I remember back in 1984 when I helped Grandpa bring the VIDA-B down from Harbor Springs to Grand Haven for the summer, he jokingly made a comment about wondering if we could find our way down the lake. He said he had only been doing it for 37 years and I thought wow, what a long time! Now I can "boast" that I have boated since 1968 and I am sure Sky can do the math on that one pretty quickly. ;)

Tom,

Where is the boat today ?

Yep the old Decca 110 it was the upgrade from the super 101. We bought a 110 new in '76 ($5400 a lot of dough then) when it worked you could see crab pot markers. Thank god Decca had a 3 year warantee it was broken more than it worked. We went thru magnetrons klystrons crystals you name it. We used to lay overnight at the offshore canyons off the New Jersey coast. Really needed the radar because these Kamakozzie freighters would come out of the darkness and try to run you down. The Decca had a rotating plastic bezel that you could turn and put a bearing line on the target if the bearing didnt change you knew the guy was trying to run you over. Electronics back then were no where near reliable as they are today. You used to have to go thru a burn in period until the bad components would get weeded out.

Cool Eric, how'd ya do that ....is there a coast guard site or something !!

I can remember that boat being in New Buffalo, MI for a few summers when called she was called Casa Blanca.

"My Way" winters at Brewer's in Greenport, New York. I met the owner a couple of years ago. A very nice 53 and owner. The boat is berthed in Deering Harbor Shelter Island, NY.

Small world isn't it?

I can remember that boat being in New Buffalo, MI for a few summers when called she was called Casa Blanca.

Good memory, the boat was sold by the estate in 1991 after my Grandpa had passed away in 1990. It was renamed Casa Blanca and the new owner cruised it between the Great Lakes and Florida and also went to the Bahamas. It was kept in immaculate condition during that time. She was sold again in late 1995 and spent most of 1996 cruising the east coast by a family that was chronicled in Motor Boating & Sailing in either the May or June 1997 issue.

The boat is currently named My Way and has a home port of Shelter Island, NY. I don't believe the current owner is a member here but is on the 1510 site. I was hoping somebody from here knows them and could pass on this post, I am sure they would get a kick out of seeing it brand new.

Thanks for the info Nick! Yes, it is a small world. It's good to hear she is kept nice.

I'll pass on the history to the present owner when I see him, likely next spring!

He is my uncle. I will pass along.

LOL, I think I can figure that one without really even thinking about it.

You know too much!

I have a picture of it circa 1994 or 1995 I will look for. It was at Lake Michigan Yacht Club.
