  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
May your water depth always be greater than that of your keel and less than that of your rode.

Happy new year Bird! Hopefully the new year has you running on 24 cylinders. see ya at the MIBS raft-up!

Mario

Happy new year to all. may we all have a great year.

Happy New Year from us in the frozen midwest too. And for us I will add "May the water once again turn liquid around our boats.

Happy New Year, everyone.

"May the weather gods be good to me tonight so that I may get back in my slip!" Pascal is in the Bahamas; Ed is in Atlanta...I'm on my own tonight. My first solo outing! "Solo", as in no one else to drive the boat; I will have some line-handling crew onboard, though. :D

I wish I were there to help you handle things Ang. :D

Thanks Mario, I'll be looking forward to seeing you (clearly) at the raft-up as well. :D

And may the price at the pump be always less than both!

Happy New Year to all, and may all of us have a safe and enjoyable boating season for '09.

And Angela, I hope you got that boat in all right!

Good health and much happiness to all of you in the New Year. Hatt owners have a lot to be thankful for, not the least of which is this great forum. Thanks Doug, Jim, Pascal, Genesis and everyone who contributes to making this such an enjoyable and informative site.

Best Regards, Bob & Nancy

As the snow flies here in Connecticut, we wish all a Happy New Year!!

Angela remember 2 basic things

1) it's a heavy boat and it will have momentum
2) there is no rush to get in the slip.

Take your time and use the mass of the boat with the wind and all should be fine.

First Solo run is a great way to start off the year.

Hey Ang and everyone else. Happy New Year! Ang, you are braver than me to go out into the Miami Waterways at night on New Years Eve! Ha! I'm sure you'll do fine. Just go out and get situated while its still light. I'm sitting tight in the slip, eating stone crab and drinking scotch. I hope everyone is careful tonight. Remember, its amatuer night out there....

Cmon 2009!

Hey Ang, just shout out all your commands in Spanish as not to draw attention to your boat.

I thought July 4th was amatuer night, no?

I was all excited about this until the wind picked up and I looked at the hourly forecast. It's sustained at 21 right now in my slip according to my instruments, with a few whitecaps in the bay and in the marina. The strongest winds are yet to occur between 1AM and 4AM, which is during the time we would be returning. Due to people's arrival times, we would not even get out of here until at least 8PM. I'll sit tight and make a call on it later. This is my boat; my decision will be final, and I will not be talked into doing something with which I am uncomfortable at the risk of the boat, not even "liquid courage" LOL. Both of the people whom I fully trust at the helm in any weather are not here and that's just the way it is, like it or not. And I don't like it!!!! But, it is what it is.

Now, on the other hand, my slip provides one of the finest views of downtown Miami and the fireworks that you can possibly get if you're not out there on the hook.

If I were on my flybridge right now, I would be looking at the snow accumulating on the deck as the wind speed picks up to 35-40 knots with 45-50 knot gusts. At least the deck should clear if the wind persists, but this is the typ of weather when it looks like the boats grow beards from the water splashing up on the hull. Yes, the boat is in the water for the winter.

So, for New Year's, I'm going home and staying in the warmth generated by furnaces and will watch the ball drop in Times Square in NYC while the people in Times Square freeze tonight. Expected wind chill tonight is zero.

Happy New Year.

Best wishes to everyone for the New Year!!

Hi Ang, saw the boat through the binocs in its slip , on our way down to Elliott Key this afternoon. Anchored out now, getting ready to put the steaks on the grill. It's only blowing about 5 knots right now, but supposed to perk up later as noted. A pretty YF came in around sunset, couldn't catch the name. We'll spend most of tomorrow goofing around in the Whaler and hiking on Elliott. Then back to Hollywood Friday or Saturday or... whenever..

Happy New Year Everyone!

HAH!!!!! I grew some balls! LOL

I had made my decision to stay put earlier in the day. I went to a cocktail party down the dock at around 6PM and walked back to my boat about an hour later because my beer was gone. Intrigued by the change in weather...I walked to the very end of the pier. It was still. I walk into the PH...wind meter (yeah, I know it's got a fancy name I can't remember), kept say, 3 then 4 then 3 then 4....Hummmmm....I knew it was supposed to kick up during the night, but what the hell....I decided to go out, and return when I reached 12 on the wind meter. I was obedient in my "atmosphere" and kept a careful watch on things and did not try to keep up with my guests.

We went out, got anchored for the fireworks show, and just before the show....I noticed the WIND. Not bad, not great, but still not bad. As soon as the show ended, I brought the boat home in choppy water and nailed the slip on the first try. YIPPIE SKIPPIE!!! I DID IT!!!! This may seem like nothin' to you old salts, but I've been traumatized by wind in my past....just ask Ed. There was a time, for a long time, I would leave the slip, but I would not come back to the slip on my own after a traumatic wind incident. There were two of them....one was a tornado, and the other was just strong wind where I nearly took out all the windows on a large houseboat - that's the one that really did me in.

So, it's 3AM now, it's a howlin' out there, and you should hear the waters breaking over my swim platform. But, I DID IT!!!! Now, I've got some slapping-lines-sailboats I gotta go put out of their misery. I just hate sloppy sailors. That's my real pet peeve in a marina.

I'm off to a great start for 2009. But, I still need my "people." I'm not that confident yet, and beside my "people" are ....well as we used to say in Ohio..."they good people." Pascal...hurry home!!!
