  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' COCKPIT MY (1990 - 1999)
Greetings from eastern NC. I'm trying to determine ground truth on use of zincs in the raw water pump on my 8V92TAs.

I've read that some don't put a zinc on the input side (concerned that it could break off and damage the pump), some don't put a zinc on input or output side, and some put in both. I've searched the web and found advice from long time DD mechs and long time DD owners. They are all over the map. I also read that DD designed the pumps to have on both sides so they must have had a good reason for doing so.

I just replaced zincs in my heat exchangers and rodded them out. I pulled fittings on pumps and replaced each except for one input side that had a broken zinc inside. I'll need to pull input side off to get to the remaining zinc. But now I'm second guessing whether they should remain or not?

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

FWIW, I run them in the pumps and in the HE in/out pipes. Stopped with pencil zincs as they were always breaking off. All of the above drain when the motors are off. You're right, everyone has an opinion--this is mine.
